    engine temp (1.8T)

    Hi,
for anyone with an octavia 1.8T, just wondering how long it takes for our engine to reach operating temp from cold start? Mine can take up to 10 minutes of normal(stop/start) driving to do this which seems very long - it's either a quirk of the engine (do direct injection motors run cooler?) or the thermostat is not fully closing. Every other car i've ever owned (especially turbo ones) get up to temp with a 2 or 3 mins of starting.

    thanks,

    Brad

    Hi Brad

I hadn't reall thought about it but I guess it takes mine about 5 minutes / 3-4km for the temp gauge to get to halfway (which isn't operating temp but i know what you mean). That's with the ambient around 15 degrees. I fitted the insulation pad from the diesel model to mine - possibly it makes it get to temp quicker?

I actually think the car warms up about average/faster than normal. Our Calais takes heaps longer.

    thanks
    Brad

Checked this morning. 16 deg ambient. car had been in garage overnight.
It took 6 minutes/2km. That was 300m drive to school. Idle in the drop-off for 30secs. 100m to lights & idle for a minute. 500m to lights, idle for 2 minutes& then up the road about a kilometre.

Calais would be more like 10-15mins/5km

    Thanks Brad,
On a cool canberra morning (2-3 degrees) mine takes about 10min but obviously this time comes down as ambient rises. By comparison my other car (s15 200sx) takes under 3minutes even in subzero temps to reach the mark.
Anyways, just thought i'd check if this was the norm as i've had a few issues with my car in the time i've owned it so wouldn't be surprised if something else was not quite right!

    cheers,
    Brad
