interesting to know what they're talking about?
Got a ring from the dealer today saying that there was a recall on my car for a firmware update (but they apparently need it all day).
Anybody know anything or had a ring?
It's going in on 14 Sept because that was the first day a loan car was available.

I had the DSG firmware update (service campaign 37G7) installed with my last service a couple of months ago. Basically it prevents an issue where if you leave the car in P for a while there's a chance it gets stuck and you can't shift to R and beyond. Not that I ever had an issue with that. Perhaps that's all it is???
It's highly unusual that you got a phone call from a dealer for a recall. Any owners affected by a recall should be notified in writing on VW Australia letterhead informing what the issue is, what the factory allocated recall number is, and what the owner should do to have the issue rectified without cost. The first thing I'd be doing is ringing the dealer back and asking them for the recall number.
As for them wanting the car for the day. Without knowing what the issue is it's impossible to say whether that's justified or not. That said, the dealer where Mrs. BS bought her Golf VI wanted her car for the whole day for its first service. It was bargained for at purchase, so while inconvenient it was free. Then they wanted the car for the whole day again for the injector pipe recall, which involved fitting a rubber hose clamp. A job that took the Service Receptionist longer to do the paperwork than it did the tech to do the job. We rang another dealer who upon an agreed date was happy to do the job while I helped myself to a free hot brekkie and coffee. Needless to say, the dealer where Mrs. BS bought her car no longer gets her business. The same scenario when I had my RS injector pipe mod done.
Some dealers just say they'll need the car for the day as a matter of policy. They want to keep things as easy for themselves as possible. It understandable, but then there are other dealers that will go that little bit further to actually provide what they all spruik about, customer service and satisfaction. Dealers should be bending over backwards to assist owners affected by recalls. It's bad enough for them that everyone knows the brand has been recalled. The last thing they should want is affected owners telling anyone who will listen about how they were needlessly being stuffed about in order to have the defect rectified.
The plot has thickened somewhat after I rang Skoda (VW) yesterday. Let's just say that there may be an issue of somebody trying to cover up a failure to do something they were supposed to have done some time ago. Until I get final clarification I will leave it at that.
Oh good, I have a service due with those somebodies later in the year and really becoming more despondent about the whole dealer there these days.
Then I shouldn't tell you about my recent trip there where they did something and charged me for it despite explicit repeated instructions not to do it, two other things that needed doing but both had to have rework later, and the $189 per hour non-warranty labour charge. They at least did the rework for nothing, but they wouldn't have wanted to try charging me for that.
In fairness they knew they stuffed up and were apologetic, but I have received one of those 'how was your last service' surveys and am very tempted to tell it like it is. Problem is, the likelihood of change is low across the network.
After 3 years of being stuffed around by more than 1 Skoda dealer I recently asked my wife (who is more rational about cars than me) if it were her car would she get rid of it because of the service issues. Answer: "Yes".
