That exemption list is pretty good now Tigger. 18 months back it was very short.

    glad I don't make laws

Bottom Scratcher: My boss actually makes decisions, unlike his counterparts. He's most unusual. He just gives me lots of jobs that I have no previous experience in. Shouldn't complain - possibly he's trying to stop me from getting bored.

You know I was just rethinking the original question in this post, and it hit me....

Your car is worth whatever it is worth to you!
(ok that doesnt work if reselling , sure, but what I mean is, sometimes we get hung up on the market value, and we forget what the car means to us personally...which is made up of more that just dollars)

Is that a bit too deep for 7:30 am???

    Cheers

Without going all zen, my immediate thought when I first read the title of the OP, "What is my Octavia RS worth?" was - Whatever someone is willing to pay for it. That's how market values are determined.

I'll call what you're alluding to as the personal value. This has many variables, financial and emotional, which usually all get weighed up when an owner is contemplating a replacement vehicle for an existing one. Some people can't wait to get rid of a car, while to others their existing car (like as depicted in a recent TV ad) has become to them part of the family.

Financial and emotional considerations also come into play when purchasing new vehicles. It's mostly the emotional part of a prospective purchaser's thought processes that dealership sales people do their best to tap into. Win the heart, and the mind (and wallet) will follow.

Are we just talking about petrol manual hatches in Sprint Yellow with over 100,000 kms? Because in Aug, I sold my 2008 diesel DSG wagon in Race Blue with 45,000 kms for $27,000.

I had a pretty good experience buying the RS from Lennock. Must have dealt with someone else.

Are you talking a private sale or trade-in - big difference. but you also have the perfect spec - blue, diesel, DSG. Again, vast difference to 80,000kms, Yeloow and manual. in Sydney.

Bottom scratcher, I agree with you - but in the case of a trade, there is also the risk factor the dealer acquirse and insures themselves against. They will put my $13k trade out on the lot (they will probably keep it and put it out front as a hero car to get people in, but punters will probably buy something else) but if they are lucky someone will come in within a month who wants a manual yellow wagon. They then "discount" it by say $3k and they are laughing. Alternatively they can't push someone into it with a large discount and in three months they wholesale it for say $13-14k, or less perhaps if they get caught, and are rid of it. Not many people want Skodas, even less manual ones.

Suffice to say, I love my V6 wagon, got a decent changeover, the previous one cost me almost nothing in 3 years other than service, fuel and tyres due to tax deductions from the stimulus package and we all win.

I am utterly impressed with the Superb - the quietness, smoothness, performance, good open road fuel economy, brilliant equipment levels, space - my basketballer kids can stretch out- and it even plays DVDs. The sound system is, err, Superb, particularly on music DVDs (and I am an audio buff) and nothing offers the space, equipment, handling and quality at anywhere near the price.

WHo cares what other people think?

powerd - it seems it was your RS Wagon I went to buy yesterday in Pennant Hills. I missed out on it by 5 minutes! It was exactly what I was after. Now to play the waiting game. Just so you know it's been sold to a guy from Wollongong.

Looked at purchasing a Skoda Superb (V6 Wagon) the other day. Managed to negotiate a good deal on it and after that was done I mentioned trading in my car (2009 Ocy RS TDi DSG Wagon, pre FL but with the FL interior, 72k, with extended Skoda warranty until June 2014). Have been offered $20K trade in - pretty good considering some of the other figures people have been offered.
