    What is making these noises?

My RS wagon is going back to the workshop to try and get rid of some annoying noises.
Firstly there is a rubbery creaking noise when I travel over kerbs or uneven roads at lower speeds. I think this it's the door seals that need a bit of silicone? Anyone else had this done??

Secondly at speeds over 60 there is a metallic squeak coming from the boot area. After much trial and error, (including a stomach churning trip riding in the boot) it seems to be coming from the RHS luggage hook, or just behind it. It makes no difference if the hook is up or down, but all it takes is some mildly rough roads and the thing starts to squeak like a bastard.
    Has anyone else found this?

Rubber noise is definitely the door seals....do not use silicone though. They used something else at my dealer and they went away for most of 10mths, but are coming back now. Seems some RS do it and not others, its only the RS it happens on, so I think its the stiffness, usually hear it going up speed bumps or driveways etc.

Metallic squeak I can't help you with.

Use talcum powder for the door seal noise and drop the rear seats down to test the metallic squeak from the rear. Back seats not locating correctly in their clamps are notorious for making that noise (that's not brand specific by the way).

Except for a slight squeek from under my right arm (the trim on the door is a bit cheap and flexible, but I probably only notice that as I drive with my right arm on it...), tight as a drum.

Thanks for the talcum powder trick, hope I won't need it!

I would try a dry lubricant on the rubber seals... We have had a few older examples with the same issues and it has solved the problem every time. You can buy dry lubricant at an auto store and It looks very similar to wax plus it wont dispear when you drive in the rain.

I'll try the dry lube, talc sounds messy.

The squeak in the back is not the seats, it's coming from the luggage hook. I'll let the workshop remove the trim and sort it out.

My rubber door seals make a noise over bumps etc at slow speeds.
It sems the body is far more prone to flexing than the Mondeo I had previously.

The first time I put the seats down I clearly didn't reseat one of them. Drove all the way to Sydney and halfway back with shocking squeak until my brain kicked in and I thought about it. The first weird sound is always bad with a new car - you just want it to stay in brand-new condition for ever.

Yes. I had a Golf MkIV which had a squeak from new. Found it was coming from where the top of the rear seat latched into the body of the car. Fixed in seconds with dry lube. Never had a squeak again.

I don't think it's flexing as the other models don't do it just the rs. It's probably more the stiffness of them.
