What exactly is the MY11 Octavia RS?

    Hey guys,

Toying with the idea of grabbing one of these as a V8 replacement in the near future. But the salesman isn't much help with telling me exactly what I'm getting for my money...

Tried to make it sound like a state secret he was doing me a favour of telling me that the MY11 models have the Columbus sat-nav. What else does the MY11 have over the MY10? The brochures on the Skoda website seem to be for the MY10 models too!!!

    Help!?

The MY11 also comes with Hill Hold. Other than that, I don't think there are many differences.

I went for a MY10 because of the discount we got, at the end of the day I wasn't going to use the Sat-Nav so saw no point paying extra for a MY11. Either way, they are a great car mate.

Thanks mate! Hill hold isn't too much of an issue in the DSG I assume lol. What about that funky front diff I heard mentioned once or twice?

Yep you're right. XDL is standard on MY11 models (uses ESP to quell understeer at the front-axle), as is the aforementioned Columbus sat-nav and hill-holder, and a rear wiper for the liftback models. 103TDI/118TSI non-RS models got Columbus, new alloys and a rear wiper on the liftback, and 90TSI/77TDI models got the 1.4TSI and a leather steering wheel and a rear armrest.

The rear wiper actually came standard in the MY10 models if they were built after march I believe. I got one standard on ours and it's 03/10 while my mate has a 02/10 and has no rear wiper!

Yup, the MY10 model I drove today had a rear wiper. Holy TARDIS, Batman that boot is big for such a small car btw...

HI Apotosis, told you the boot was big. But then again most people don't realise how big Mazda 6 hatch boots are either. Both are bigger than a Falcon or Commodore by far. You just don't have the same rear seat width and legroom. In a few months it will actually be summer hols for Skoda so any orders soon will actually be for MY2012 which will start delivering in Oct, who knows what they will have, but the MY2011 is actually getting close to the end of its run. They start building from Aug-some mystery time in the next few months and then stop in euro summer. When they come back its the next MY.

Motor industry model years run from September through to August generally but I think that's only a vague concept for Skoda. They seem to have a policy of continual updates and changes which is really good in one sense but can be frustrating in another when like many of us you find things that you thought you were getting on your car actually aren't there but have been replaced by something else.
From a resale point of view it's good because the lines between various model years are blurry and the condition and mileage of the vehicle will probably have more influence on it's value than whether it has a red or blue badge on the steering wheel or some equally insignificant change.

The reason the dealer is being vague about what is actually on the car is probably because they genuinely don't know for sure.

I noticed that 2011 model has a slightly different antenna.

Also some say that for 2011, the petrol engine can run on 95 RON unleaded. Which I'm not sure if it applies to RS but I would recommend to everyone to stick with h/o premium fuel, which will give you better fuel economy, so there is no real saving from using cheaper fuel and IMO, it's not good for the engine, if you always fill up with 95RON unleaded.
