Bought a Sony CCD Reverse camera kit today.

Now for the fun of installing and getting it working with RGB conversion etc. I will be referencing Kamold's write up extensively.

    Watch this space.

I may be sidelined for a bit while I do the RNS-e conversion and RVC install on the A3......

Do they fade in/out ok? I realise a LED will never completely fade to off, but does is it still relatively smooth?

These I am really happy with. They are whiter than OEM. OEM is a bit yellow. They fade out completely to off.

The ones I have in the A3 have a blue tinge such that my son calls them the blue lights. They also have latent glow unless switched off with the switch or lock the doors after exiting. These I would not recommend. I got them form a different supplier though.

The ones in the above link are really good IMHO. Brighter than OEM, whiter than OEM, no errors and they do fade smoothly completely to off.

It was all interior lights too, including the two in the boot. The only thing I would have liked is a bit brighter in the boot (they are brighter than stock). The supa skoda ones for the boot look good in that regard, but I couldnt justify the cost.

The puddle light bulbs may have been a tad short so had to squash the retainer clips inwards a bit to hold the bulb securely. Havent had an issue though.

Awesome thanks for the feedback. Just put my order through. Determined not to do anything tacky to this car, as I like it so much as it is stock!

I gave it a wash, then attacked the inside with some soapy water and then a coat of Mothers Protectant. Looks nicer, will be interesting to see how long it stays clean and glossy-ish. Was nice to remove all the hand marks etc regardless!

It's almost due for a service - but still under warranty for another 8 months. It's using a little bit of oil. Over the last 8,500kms I've had to add about 1.3L of oil. Which is roughly 0.15L/1,000kms. This is well under the handbook levels of 'up to' 0.5L/1,000kms so it's probably fine. But I've never had a car use so much before, so I'm a little wary.

I'm tossing up whether to go to the VWVillage for servicing, which is closer and does Revo tunes OR go to the Skoda dealer, just to get them to note the oil consumption in case it gets worse. I'm thinking if I note the 'issue' before the warranty period expires, and it gets significantly worse, I have a better chance of after-warranty cover. Thoughts?

That does seem like a fair bit, but not unheard of with new turbo engine's. Take it to the dealer and get it serviced and Menton it, the week brush it off and say 'normal' but at least it's in record. You could add an alternative, take it to a specialist and get them to look at the pcv as that can also gunk up and cause consumption. Both my Skodas used a bit in the first few thousand ks, but it eased off after that (I'm talking 2-300ml over 5000 k, then not much at all after that). Transporter or one of the more mechanically minded guys might be able to pipe up and offer some more specific advice

I've tentatively booked it with the Rockdale Skoda and mentioned the oil consumption concern in the e-mail. The reply wasn't all that useful (they'll check the oil as part of the service..... well durr!) but I'll talk about it again when we drop it in and make sure they log it as a concern. I'll give them my actual oil consumption figures then too.

The Mother's Protectant looks pretty good this morning and it's obviously less 'lush' looking where I've missed a spot on the door.

VAG cars are known for oil usage and each car is different. From experience, my 1.8T A4, used up to .5L per tank if I used a heavy right foot, and spent a lot of time in the upper half of the taco. Shall we say spirited driving? I even had the low oil waring light come on on the M1 heading towards London as I was not used to checking the oil so often. Now that was concerning. After that, you always check every tank fill, and always carry either 5L or 1 L of oil in the boot.

Now with the 1.8T, if I drove normally, I would use zero oil in 10,000km. Drive hard, and it drank the stuff.

Good to have the usage on record, but Skoda wont do anything. Also try and remember how you drove the last tank or so.

pointless 'test' they do. some of my 'consumption' was due to the fact they didn't do up the sump plug properly and then put silicone around it to stop it leaking.

im using penrite enviro+ 5w40 and ive put 1L within 6 months. before that, it was 1L every 2 months. the dealers use cheaper oils that don't seem to last long.
