But how much difference is there between the RS inter cooler and Golf R? Cause I thought I read somewhere that there's not a huge difference between the Golf GTI and R intercoolers?

Based on the table in this thread there appears minimal upgrade (25%) in core volume between a stock GTI and S3 intercooler.

Installed on my 2010 118TSI. Managed to pick it up on ebay for $200 shipped. As budget is always a factor, I just couldn't help picking it up at that price. I did consider a SPM intercooler but the price difference was too great. If and when I eventually go Stage 2+ I will consider getting a larger cooler.

The car feels much more alive. The whole system isn't as laggy. I am yet to have a dry night here since the install so I can do some safe WOT runs to see what (if any) difference there is in acceleration and 1/4 mile times.

Been doing a bit of reading and the Wagner intercooler seems to be the best bang for buck. If only I'd known about this earlier when the AUD was strong against the green back, and it would have been even better bang for buck!!!

I assume the benefits of an intercooler upgrade are much more to us folk who live in more northern latitudes (in the southern hemi) given we have high ambient temps and humidity for a fair % of the year.

I'm holding out for the Integrated Engineering IC to become available (Mk6 version IE FSI/TSI/TFSI FDS Performance Intercooler Kit), costly (approx $1000) though it looks like a good bit of kit. Upgrading the IC seems a no brainer for our climate

Climate was definitely a factor for me. After putting a Stage 1 file on the car I figured I would have to increase the cooling as soon as possible, especially with temps in the mid 30's lately. Now that I have seen the difference a larger cooler can make I would not hesitate going even larger, when funds allow of course.

Now that I am hooked on the performance of my car I am thinking downpipe next. Any recommendations?

Going stage one next week I'd rate CTS. My brother has their K04 and turboback exhaust. He's very happy with it. CTS Turbo Gen 3 1.8T/2.0T TSI Downpipe

Thanks for the advice, I will keep them in mind.

Who are you getting to do the tune? I can highly recommend Viezu. Went from 106kw at the wheels to 128kw at the wheels from my 118TSI.

Going with GIAC and CTS for intake as my mechanic is an Australian dealer for both products. I've heard good things about Viezu.
