This looks like a very good value package.

Forgive my ignorance, but are there any considerations (apart from ensuring there is sufficient clearance within the wheels) in moving to slightly larger rotors? Looks like OEMs is
Front 280mm-> 312mm for this kit
    Rear 253mm -> 283mm for the kit

Does anything need to be adjusted? Are there any considerations with the pads?

Would like to do the change over myself (with assistance from a retired mechanic neighbor) so want to make sure I don't leave myself without a way to stop

The kit is for a Golf GTI which should be pretty similar to an Octavia vRS.

If you've got an Elegance or Ambition spec MK2 then your brakes are smaller.

If you have a 90tsi with the 50mm strut then I doubt you could get the GTI kit to fit without major parts changes.

If you have the 118tsi or the TDI models they should be 55mm strut. You can "upgrade to the 312mm disk by retaining the existing caliper & fitting the vRS/GTI caliper carrier. I'm not sure how the rears would fit into the equation.

It would be up to the purchaser to do some investigations of their vehicle & have a chat to the supplier to ensure they are getting the right gear as the hardware varies.

You could also retain the existing specs & change to a better quality rotor & pad.

This may help (apologies about the table format fail):
    Octavia Mk2 Brakes:
The following tables are based on what was originally factory fitted, subsequent owners may have upgraded
the disc sizes (e.g. 288 312mm front discs) so it is always worth measuring them to → double check before
    ordering.
    Front Brakes:
If you have a vRS you need 312mm front brake discs. If you don't have a vRS, check your front calipers to
see if they have FS-III stamped in the outside face of them – if they do you need 280mm discs, otherwise you
    need 288mm discs.
    Calipers Disc Size Notes Thickness
    FS-III 280mm New: 22mm Min: 19mm
    FN3 288mm New: 25mm Min: 22mm
FN3 312mm vRS (Petrol and Diesel) New: 25mm Min: 22mm
Front pads thickness – New: 14mm Min: 2mm
    Rear Brakes:
To work out what size rear brake discs you need, check the options sticker either on your service book or
stuck to the boot floor to the top left of the spare wheel well. You should find one of the following PR codes
listed and the size of rear discs you need depends on the PR code and whether or not your Octavia Mk2 is a
facelift model (i.e. was built from April 2009).
PR Code Disc Size Notes Thickness
    1KD 255mm Pre-FL New: 10mm Min: 8mm
    1KD 253mm FL New: 10mm Min: 8mm
    1KF 260mm Pre-FL New: 12mm Min: 10mm
    1KF 256mm FL New: 12mm Min: 10mm
    1KP 286mm Pre-FL New: 12mm Min: 10mm
    1KP 282mm FL New: 12mm Min: 10mm
    1KS 272mm FL New: 10mm Min: 8mm
    1KT 272mm FL (Red Calipers) New: 10mm Min: 8mm
Rear pads thickness – New: 11mm Min: 2mm

If modifying Octavia brakes, also note that the VRS has the larger (+2mm) brake master cylinder
It's a common setup in the sports Audi and the GTI's

Which seems odd when you consider that the front calipers are the same piston size (and I assume the rears are close too).

Going from 288 to 312 without any other changes (I retained my original caliper & brake pads) definately made a difference for the better. It seems to clamp better but not grab as much.

apologies for reviving an old thread, but do u guys reckon i will have any issues with the existing rear calipers if i went from 272mm to 282mm?

i.e. i won't need to have the caliper carrier modified to accommodate the larger (+10mm) rotor.

my car currently has 272mm rear rotors (confirmed by the build codes and part number on the rotor itself), and at 82,000kms, its time to replace the pads. rather than machining the rotors, i've decided to replace the rotors with the DBA T2 rotors.
i'll b getting the remus pads to go with.

I assume the rotor width & hat height are all the same?

It's only 5mm extra but you'd have to measure / take a photo of the clearance between the edge of the rotor & where the caliper sits.

Can you put an 8mm high blob of plasticine / bluetac on the rotor & rotate it through the caliper area and see what height / width it is skimmed down to?

edit: looking at the info I wrote in post 53, it appears the 272 rotors are 10mm thick & the 282mm rotors are 12mm thick? I'd be surprised if you have 2mm extra width to play with.

    edit2:
The LHS caliper for the 1KP 282mm rotor is a 1K0615423P (P=painted red I believe). The carrier is 1K0615425S and is common to both sides. I think these are TRW/Lucas

The LHS caliper for the 1KT 272mm rotor is 5K0615423 (I have no idea what the difference between 5k & 1k is). The carrier is left & right handed. The LHS carrier is a 5K0615425 (unpainted) or A for red painted. These are Bosch calipers

The suffix numbers are the same but what does the 1k / 5k prefix mean?

Found it here VW part number and Audi part numbers explained in ETKA | VW TDI forum, Audi, Porsche, and Chevy Cruze diesel forum

    1k =Golf 2004-2009 or Jetta 2005-2010
    5k= Golf 2010 - 2013

I don't think that helps much. Plasticine will be your friend.

If it's any help. Micks garage has 272mm Ferodo plain rotors for AUD90/pair +$25 shipping or Mintex (item code 3218722) AUD126/pr

Europaparts.com has Zimmermans for USD35 each + shipping (they look nice too!)

    M-tec have F+R rotors & pads for $600 delivered

this mob on eBay are cheap-as(AUD130 for 4 discs & pads) but you'd have to email them & get a special mix of 312mm/272mm
