thanks for the info & links brad.
i am however staying away from anything cross-drilled.

turns out the bigger 282mm rotor will not fit under the bosch calipers.

gslrallysport got back to me saying they can provide me with the Fremax Disc Rotor 272mm for the rears. they're similar to the DBA T2 slotted rear rotors.
remsa pads are 1420.00 instead of 1031 for the bosch calipers.

all up (F+R rotors, F+R pads and 2x brake fluids) quote came up to $584. includes free shipping
am very happy with that and locked it in.

Can't complain about the price for quality components.

Make sure you have the correct triple-square bit for the rear caliper carrier - or are you just supplying parts to your mechanic?

    hmmm...what does that thing do?
i'm supplying the parts to my mechanic, who will do the fitting/install.

they r well versed with the cars of the VAG family, so hopefully they know about this triple-square bit thingy.

It's the stupid Euro version of a torx screw that VW like to use in addition to torx, allen, philips & normal bolts.

If your mech is used to working on VWs he will have the right tool.

can anyone advise if the mk5/6 gti brake lines will also fit the octavia rs?

i'm looking at getting braided brake lines, hence the question.

I can't see why not - the calipers, etc are the same.

    those r my thoughts too.

the thing that throws me off is that the rs has a bigger brake master cyclinder than what is found in the mk5/6 gti.
    shouldn't matter, but......

I have a set of MKV GTI calipers sitting at home withh braided lines. I'll try & remember to have a look tonight & compare with my OEM calipers.

The bigger master cylinder shouldn't make any difference - they just vary the bore diameter to change the pedal feel - or it's for the differing sizes in the rear brake pistons which vary between 41mm-51mm (something along those lines).

Yeah, bigger MC bore for larger caliper piston size

I thought all the sport VAG's had the larger MC
The Audi S3, VW R32 and GTI
(not 100% sure about the GTI)

the mk5/6 gti definately has a smaller brake cylinder.
The mk6 R and the S3 have the larger one, which the mk2 RS also shares....interestingly.

I don't know what is the case with newer MQB platform, i.e. the mk7 and mk3 models.
