    1. Need a car within 3 weeks, dealer had a Jetta with the options and color I wanted in stock
    2. Couldn't find a 5 door GTI in stock with the options I wanted
    3. Kizashi, 6, Accord Euro, Mondeo top of the range models all had sunroofs - no good for my 6'5 height, and they're all slower and thirstier
    4. Commodore, Falcon and Aurion to big, thirsty and *yawn*

Just because I don't like Jettas doesn't mean you need to start calling out 'mean things' (keeping it PG)!

People seem to forget how important the Jetta is to VW worldwide.

Since its launch,10 million units have been sold ,and VW are moving 700 000 units a year,so this model is the 3rd most popular model in the entire VW group, only marginally behind the Golf and Passat.

Way more popular than the top selling Skoda Octavia, which moves about 200 000 units a year.

VWs most popular car in America and China,2 massive markets,as well as Mexico and Singapore.

Easy to explain there. The Jetta may sell a lot, but it doesn't mean we have to like them (look at Camrys). VW US may have the Jetta as their number one selling car, but I know that VW US are struggling from an amount of bad quality spells and some awful products (look at the Routan!). I'll add that the Jetta in China is this (捷达 > 车型总览 > Welcome to Volkswagen China.) - it appears to be 20 years old and the Jetta we all know is called the Sagitar. Golfs are still bigger worldwide! And I know how important your old Jetta (and new Accord Euro.........) are to you.

And BlackOctaviaRS, please don't worry, I just needed to stamp my stance as such.

Yes a good choice, has stood the test of time, still look good especially with big wheel/tyre combo .

Definately a cut above the octavia inside , yes if they had a wagon i would have stepped up too .

Certainly looks more modern than a lot asian stuff .

i'm not bagging out BlackOctaviaRS's choice of getting the jetta because its a "crap" car - its not! its a great car - and as i mentioned before, i was close to buying 1 myself.
the thing i didn't get was - why buy it when there is new jetta coming very very soon?

but u've stated ur reason above - "Need a car within 3 weeks, dealer had a Jetta with the options and color I wanted in stock"
    ....so now "i get it".
in the end, it doesn't matter wat we say, its ur money - ur choice.

Its pretty hard to buy a 'crap' car these days if you're spending 30k+. The differences are more or less toys and the experience down to personal opinion.

I test drove a diesel Jetta a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty good. And I can't say it was that different from driving the Skoda diesels - which is not at all surprising
