What car should I buy next?

    Hi guys,

I'm probably starting a new job in a few weeks, which will mean a new car - I've got a company car now, and my wife has the Octavia RS Wagon.

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to sort out what car I should buy.

So far, I've got a couple of thoughts in mind.

    1. Take the RS and buy the wife a Superb Wagon
    2. Buy something around the size of the Golf GTI or Tiguan i.e. a performance hatch or a compact SVU

Does anybody have any recommendations??? I would have considered a Yeti, but, well, who knows when they'll be available in Oz.

    I would go the GTI.

You already have the octavia wagon which would suit for hauling/load carrying.

Pity the Fabia VRS isn't available either! As a second car the GTI would be nice. A Golf R, nicer

That unfortunately probably applies to most Skodas not just Yeti's. Unless you walk into a dealer and they actually have something on the floor that is close to what you want anything Skoda will take a couple of months.

A mate of mine just picked up a nice A4 2.0 Diesel DSG at a really good price off the floor at a dealers. Still more than an Octavia but certainly in the Superb price bracket.

Ultimately it depends on the cost. I'd definitely consider a Golf R as they look absolutely fabulous! The GTI just won Motor mag's Bang For Your Buck award which means they're pretty good. If you want a GTI I'd say buy an RS. Its just better value! I know you already have one, but the RS Liftback is as good to drive as a GTI (standard 18s) unless you're really anal. If not, a Superb Wagon is a very safe bet and a lovely car. As for CSUV's, the Tiguan's boot is tiny! The best CSUV'S for an ability of driving ability and space/practicality would probably be a Mazda CX-7. Unless Skoda can get the Yeti out here soon!

But do some research! Look on Carsales to see what's available too.

I was disappointed when it released as I'd already bought the VRS (if not just because I missed out on another test drive). Comes with loads of gear for the dosh and supposedly has a nice enough chassis...

It's good yep. Just reading Wheels Sept '10, and it came third in a test involving it and the Accord Euro (which won marginally), Mazda6 and Hyundai i45. Positives of the Kizashi - strong value, good dynamics; negatives - small boot, tight rear seat, annoying CVT and a firm ride. They've just released the AWD Sport version too. Good car, just needs a bit more fine tuning IMO.

I have sat behind a few in traffic, not really impressed. Suzukis just aren't really up there.

The only real negative thing I have seen in a review is that the Luxury version comes standard with a sunroof which does restrict headroom apparently. They were suggesting that Suzuki Australia may pull the sunroof off the standard features list and make it an option.
Suzuki's are generally incredibly reliable liitle cars (and motorcycles for that matter) but I don't think that the market percieves them as anything other than budget so I suspect resale on the first couple of years worth of Kizashi's could be low which could actually make for a bargain second hand purchase for my daughter in 2 or 3 years.
They have come a long way from the 360cc twin cyclinder two strokes that I first drove in the early 1970's.
