there may be hope after all - skoda uk are start to fix this rattle.
looks like they've issued their own TPI - 2028098/1.

i'm yet to confirm this, nor see the details.

if it is the case, then skoda aus will have to approve the fix under warranty.

Not necessarily. It took VAG a month or so, plus a dealer willing to order and perform the work on their on dime to confirm that it resolved the issue with local cars, before they approved it for warranty fix...

Just cause there is an overseas TPI doesn't mean the local offices support it :/

    i know.
atleast i have a better chance of convincing them to fix it with a skoda issued tpi, than with a vw issued tpi.

Have emailed Trivett Parramatta to see if they can fix. Waiting for a response re a dodgy +paddle shifter, so hopefully they can look at this at the same time.

Resurrecting... I mentioned the rattle in November to service at Nepean Motor Group. Finally chased them up (after they said they'd ordered the part and never bothered to call me back) and had the rattle fixed yesterday. It's surprising how much nicer it is to drive (maybe just because I've put up with it so long). My wife spoke to the dealership rep and he said it was a fix issued by Skoda... Worth mentioning at service time if you've been putting up for it as long as I have!

I am very interested to hear about all this.

I have had the noise since new and when I took my car in last week for a service (Peninsula VW/Skoda) I told them of the problem when I booked and when I dropped the car off.

When I picked it up I was told there is no noise and even if there was there is no TPI for the VRS TSI. Even after talking to the tech who supposedly did the work on my car he categorically stated that "there is not noise and I have never heard of that type of thing on any car with that engine". I call bull****!

I asked them to road test the car with the windows down and accelerate between 2-3000rpm to easily identify the noise. They said they didn't have time and it was not evident at idle.

He then suggested I book the car in for another whole day so they can investigate it further.

Is it also true that the clip they use to fix the problem actually opens the wastegate earlier and by an extras 2mm therefore reducing power slightly?

bout a year ago, i had a vw tech sit with me in the car to show him the "rattling".
he struggled to hear it, and when he did eventually here it, he said "that's nothing compared to racket made on the GTi's!!!"
at that time there was no tpi for skoda. i didn't bother since, and don't plan to pursue it any further.

Hmmm, sorry to hear that and I also call bull****. The noise for mine was quite noticeable with the windows down, and I believe I had a fairly moderate case. I can only go on NMG's willingness to fix it and the fact that he told my wife that it was an issued fix. Perhaps it isn't, but you'd have to wonder why they would go to the trouble of ordering the part for me to come another day and actually fix it

No decrease in power that I've noticed, but I imagine a few killer wasps is going to be rather hard to ascertain.
