Which dealerships have you been to?
I don't know how they'd go with this, but I've never had anything but a good experience from mine - Allan Mackays (Moss Vale)
Hi all,
As you could see I've been posting quiet a bit about the famous rattle regarding the waste gate clip.
I've been to 3 dealerships, and none of them have an idea on what they're doing. So I'm honestly thinking to take it into my own hands and just fix it myself, as I'm getting sick of chasing around and running around to dealerships (last attempt next Thursday) to see if something is wrong with the car.
What do you think of taking this fix into my own hands?
Thanks for your help.
Lex

2012 Octavia vRS TDI. Darkside big turbo, 3bar tune, other stuff. 200kW/650Nm.
1990 Mk1 Cabrio. 1.9 IDI w/ 18PSI.
1985 Mazda T3500 adventuremobile. 1973 Superbug. 1972 Volvo 144 in poo-brown.
Not including hers...
North Shore (where I bought the car)
Trivett Blacktown
Alto Skoda
and this coming Thursday I'm going to Trivett in Alexandria
It's a simple clip. Nothing to it. In the original mk6 thread there is a video showing the install, just troll though to find it. If you are handy just buy one and install yourself. It's not hard.
It you want the dealer to take some responsibility you will need to simply keep hassling them. Sell it to them as a matter of goodwill.
Its such a cheap fix its a no brainer. It will cost them $150 tops. Retail on the $2 clip is ~$80? An apprentice to install the clip will cost ~$22?
I rung two times a week for a few months before my dealer got Skoda to come to the party. My local dealer (Brisbane Prestige) was piggy in the middle for some time on this. It's a pity Skoda have their head so far up their "simply clever" BS that they can't see that a simple bit of customer service goes a long way. The funny thing is before I got my clip installed at least two family members were considering Skoda until they heard my "broken" car.... Neither bought into the brand because of perceived quality issues...
The choice is simple.
If life is short... Just install yourself.
If you want to make a point about crap customer service then you will need to hassle them more.
I've been hasseling them like no tomorrow. I've been talking to them since last Thursday non-stop and honestly it's really p****ng me off so much that I'm up to the point of giving up.
I'm going to get the clip myself today so at least I've got the fix, and I'll try Skoda 1 more time upcoming Thursday to see what they say.
But it's amazingly disappointing.
I would NOT recommend anyone to deal with North-Shore Skoda. They never return calls, ignore you as a customer and funny enough I'm still waiting for them to get my warranty papers to me which was wrong as I have 5 years warranty on my car.
I totally agree with the comment about North Shore Skoda. Once they have the deal, you cease to exist. Their service department is a disgrace and their mentality seems to be they are doing you the favour of servicing your vehicle. They also never returned my calls. Honestly, I did not received a call from them, ever. I was always the one ringing.
MY11 Octavia RS 2.0lt TSI DSG Liftback - Candy White
same here. And it's rude cause you spend so much money on a vehicle (well I think it's a lot of money) and they treat you like this.
I'm now waiting for 3 days for them to return my call.
I have to say the sales guy David, he's good and he follows up with you as well. But the rest?? I'm sorry they've lost my business. And I'll make sure that I can spread the word of how they treat customers.
^ Hi Lex (The Speedfighter)
Finally got that part number for you.
Part: 06J 145 220A
Description: Wastegate Spring Clip
This is the one that was fitted to my brothers vRS Octy a few weeks ago. Sorry for the delay - he didnt know what the part number was, so had to speak to the service dept.
If your dealership still tells you it doesnt exist etc, tell them to call the Skoda/Audi dealership in Newcastle (dealerships are 300m from each other, but share a common service dept and service facilities).
Pics of it here: http://www.iroc-forum.de/showthread....3432#pid343432
You can buy it here if you want: http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2210978/

I replied to your PM
Well apparently since it's not a Skoda recognized issue/part your warranty will void if it gives issues later down the track (according to North-Shore Skoda).
So I'm just thinking to wait until next Thursday when it take it to Trivett so they can have another look over this car and maybe get it fixed.
^ couldnt reply to your PM as your inbox is full....so ill just plonk my message here.
Honestly - i would fit it myself (will take you 10mins once you have the car jacked up) and never mention it to Skoda. They would be none the wiser. All the clip does is hold the wastegate rod firmly against the other little arm its connected to....it does not affect the actual operation of the engine/turbo etc in ANY way shape or form.
If you were unlucky enough to have some sort of engine/turbo failure while you are under warranty, you could just as easily remove the clip (if you are worried about it affecting your warranty) before you take it to the dealership.
