What you say is true. I had my 60,000km done by a registered mechanic. Infact, I'm a registered mechanic and could do services myself if I had the motivation. CBF though.

I read the word "service" in Kiwis statement as being able to provide "warranty service" as that is what I was enquiring about.

Yep. Audi in Sutherland provided me a quote when I enquired but the attitude, price & the caveats/exclusions indicated that they'd rather not have a Skoda sully their workshop. VW dealer in Sutho wouldn't even return my emails/calls.

Certainly hasn't deterred me from shortlisting Skoda or VW from being my next car (3 years perhaps). But the realisation that buying one wouldn't just absolve me of any any all future quality issues another marque might have did deter me from trading the SSV for the time being...

I think I need to win lotto so I can have both!

Something I found when I removed the spare wheel on the weekend - some minor spots of surface rust along the edges of the factory sound deadener. Enough to need rubbing back and fixing. I will take a few photos of it and post for reference and will be making a trip to Rick Damelian.....

Note, I have never removed the wheel before now and it has never been wet in there so this seems to be a result of gluing the deadener or else poor surface preparation before painting.

Fixed the rattle/creaking noise on the passenger side of the dash. After popping off the side cover of the dash and pressing a few places, it seemed the whole assembly was creaking. Deciding not to fiddle around with checking & tightening each torx screw (and probably dropping the torx key in a crevice in the process and creating another problem for myself), I grabbed the trusty can of silcone spray and blasted it everywhere I could see a joining of two plastic components. Return of the silence, problem solved.

I've got the same problem and am therefore sitting in the service centre waiting room as I type this whilst they fix the rattling/humming. Also got a plastic humming from somewhere in the back but this rain doesnt help me to reproduce it like I did last night. Darn it. Hope they can figure it out and fix it. Octy has been rattling and squeeking since week 2 of ownership but asides from that, really happy with it.

I would not be happy with a car that rattled and squeeked since week 2...I would get rid of it personally ASAP.

Would you really? That would be an expensive exercise. This is my 4th new car, with 2 of my previous cars (Mazdas & Hondas) having an occasional rattle also.
My Mother's new BMW 3-Series convertible also has a creak in the dash which is MUCH louder than my Skoda's humble effort and my Grandfather's brand new E-Class Merc has a very annoying rattle coming from somewhere in the rear/door.
With such high demand and mass production of new vehicles, it's just luck of the draw if all of your plastic components are screwed and glued together harmoniously. And clearly it doesn't make a difference if you buy a $50K Skoda or a $140K BMW...

Had a problem with my rear driver side window not winding up properly. Eventually it too part of the rubber strip with it. Took it in and they said they had to order the part, so sent me on my merry way for a couple of weeks.

They called me back when they had the parts and swapped it out. They even re-tinted the windows, even though I didn't get the tint from them.

Only complaint is that the fitting job isn't perfect if you look closely, but otherwise, pretty happy with it all. Took them about a day and 40kms on the car. I queried the kms logged, and it was because they drove the car over to the tinters to be tinted. Or I could have waited another day for the tinters to come.

Happy that it's all OK again.

    bit drastic there!!!
and worse still, considering there is a 4-6 month wait on new (factory) one, i'll go with "fixing" those issues.
