Had several issues with my 08 octy 118 liftback:
1st is annoying rattle on coarse road surfaces from within trim of rear hatch which has been there since 2 months old - dealer seems incapable of rectifying.

2nd is squeaking front door seals that other people seem to also experience

3rd was the worst - Fuel pressure regulator shat itself near bairnsdale in victoria on the way back to canberra. Nearest service centre was 2.5hrs back towards melbourne. Skoda aus looked after us with accommodation and hire car but half arsed VW dealer in Morwell had no idea how to fix the car. It was obviously a fueling problem as the car would not rev or and instantaneous consumption readout would not go over about 8L/100. It took them 2weeks to work this out! and a furthur 2weeks to get the part and ship the car back to canberra, which arrived at the local dealership absolutely filthy (had been left outside in a dust storm with the bonnet up or something) and no paperwork to identify the owner (me) or indicate the work that had been done. Thankfully for us skoda paid for a hire car (jetta) for the period.

Overall its a great car for the price, but the build quality could be better and their service network is crap. The car it replaced was a 92 model jap built corolla seca with 300,000 on it and not a single rattle!

IMHO NOTHING beats the quality of a JAPANEESE built Toyota or Honda.

Sat in a brand new ford focus today. $27,000 drive away with leather...the quality was no where near the standard of the skoda! I never realised it! Extremely happy with the skoda's build quality atm
    MY10 Occy vRS \\ GIAC Flash Tune \\ 19" VMR v713 \\ It's a Skoda. Honest.

I think that Skoda is doing just fine, when is rated just 0.1% below Toyota in Lexus dominates JD Power 2010 - Car and Car-Buying News - What Car? many Japanese cars are well below Skoda.

and remember if you judge the vehicle reliability only by how many times something needs attention, the most reliable form of transport would be a bicycle.

Ummm, you obviously havent bought a bike from Big W/Kmart with a made in China sticker. Even Alfas are more reliable than them.

The trouble with toyotas is *snore*.... Actually, the mother in laws aurion goes like **** from a shovel. But its not much fun to drive other than that.

VW/Skoda have obviously worked pretty hard to up their reliability and owner satisfaction, in the mid 00's they weren't doing that well in surveys like this...

This is hard to descripe, but lately i've been getting this weird knocking noise. It's quite faint and i believe it's coming from somwhere in the dash/steering column. I generally hear it when slowing down or when i'm stationary. I have absolutley no idea what it is.
I'm due for a service in about 2000kms so i'll bring it up with them.

    Has anyone else had this?

I notice in the winter with air on heating , when at the lights i get a knock/tap sound from the lower dash area , might be plastics expanding.
