vrs electrical issues - help

Hi all,

I have a 2010 FL vrs Octy wagon, with bending xenons.

For the past 6 months I've been getting a headlight bending (AFS) error, whatever that means. The problem first appeared going around a roundabout (at reasonable speed). So far Skoda @ Nambour and VW @ Maroochydore haven't been able to fix the problem. They are exceptional at taking up a day of my time, clearing the fault and saying "sorry" after it reappears on my drive home.

I'm about to take it to Brisbane Prestige (where I bought the car) in the hope that they might be more knowledgeable in fault diagnosis / problem solving.

However, I wonder if anyone else has had a similar issue or could thought light (pardon the pun) on the situation.
The error comes up every time the battery is reconnected (something they discovered) and if they clear the fault leaving the battery as is, then it's an intermittent one, generally appearing on acceleration or cornering suggesting a loose connection. I've already taken both lights out, cleaned the terminals and put them back. When the error does appear, the lights drop down and don't turn. The don't always turn when the error is absent.

Ok that's the first problem. Now the second:
For the past fortnight, the boot won't open with the switch. At least it opens fine with the switch if the boot is not properly closed, but once you do shut it properly, it won't let you open it. The key remote works fine, and is the only means I have of opening the boot. VW told me it was the switch and I am 100% confident that it's not given that if you haven't got the boot properly latched it lets you re-open it without fail. I am pretty sure it's one of the modules that's not letting you open it if it's closed fully.

At exactly the same time as the boot issue, I could no longer open & close the windows by holding the unlock/lock buttons on the remote.

After forum trawling I am leaning towards a dodgy convenience module but am not sure if my car even has one. Forums suggest it will be in the driver's door if it does.

I am no expert, but logic would tell me that its a Body Control Module error.
The BCM controls basically all of the in-cab electrics. Mirrors, windows, interior lights, dash, etc. As well as external lights.

I'm about to get my third one after my right front indicator would stay on.
Now, the left low beam (Halogen) won't operate at all. They both come up as errors on the dash.

taking the lights out & cleaning won't fix anything. there r a number of sensors outside the headlight unit itself that controls the "bending" action.
have u checked to see, via maxidot, if ur in "tourist mode"? this mode flattens the beam & disables the "bending" action.
also check the auto-levelling sensors have not "popped out". one is located on the passenger front axle (look from behind the wheel - passenger door side), and the other on the rear passenger axle (look from infront of the wheel - rear door side.)


however the fact that ur getting error codes, and based on the other issues ur also having - it could b a dodgy BCM, as Mysticality pointed out.

Thanks heaps guys. I check out the sensors.. they seem pretty will fitted to me. Hopefully a BCM will fix everything. I'll keep you posted, it's in on Wed

I know this is an old thread, but in case it helps anyone else, I managed to fix the problem by following the advice given by dArK5HaD0w.
Skoda weren't much help and every time I got the car back from "being fixed" or "can't find anything" the error kept returning. A little fiddling with the sensors under the car (they were all plugged in but I simply wiggled them) and the error stopped and has never returned. Headlights turning normally.
