Is the car standard ? Surging is usually associated with running lean, is the car running hot ?
Hi All,
Have searched the site but thought i'd post up my problem as you maybe able to assist.
I just got my 2007 VRS 2.0l petrol manual and have noticed in the last weeks or so that under accelaration there is a stutter or surge like feeling. I am new to turbo cars and have read about boost leaks and such but not sure if this surging / stutter in power is what it would feel like.
Could it be plugs or coil packs?
I am in South East Melbourne is there somewhere you would recommend i go to get them to check it out?
Thanks in advance
Danny

2011 MY12 Yeti 77 TSI DSG.
Stutter (hesitation) and surge (sudden power) are completely opposite - perhaps you could better describe what's happening?
If you are in a high gear and nail the throttle to the floor there can be a pause/delay while the DSG makes the "unanticipated" gear change (1.1 seconds) - this can feel odd and you will get a significant surge of acceleration once it's in the right gear - you can avoid this by manually dropping down a few gears, then you are ready to go

its completely stock, and a manual.
The sensation is no power, but comes in blips through the rev range. Was fine when i bought it a month ago and now not so.
I am only assuming boost leak on what i have read, but still not sure.
Will likely take it to a mechanic to check it out, but was kinda hoping it was an easy diy fix
Cheers
Smoke test should pick up any leaks. I'd check the DV cause does the 2007 model have the older DV?
Hmmm, a boost leak throws a CEL
Coil pack failure (normally number 3) has a much more significant impact (very common on cars that have a performance ECU flash)
How many km on the clock?
Does it run rough on the first start of the day?

I've got some coil packs handy if the 2.0 tsi (147) is the same as yours and you want to borrow to swap out for troubleshooting. I have the same issue in a 2012 vRS but it's a DSG and only problematic with a bluefin tune, and fine in S mode...

Mines booked in at Volkservice Braeside for the first time in a few weeks. Will let you know how it goes. I've always heard good things about Auto Union Deutsche as well...
Thanks everyone, I have also booked in at Volkservice Braeside this Friday.
After reading Martin's post i think it could be coil packs, this is my first turbo so straight away thought boost leak but feels like coil packs to me.
How do i know if the ECU has been flashed? is there a way i can tell?
Will let you all know what they say at Volkservice
