When I was getting my Subaru tinted there was a Corolla getting a 90% VLT film put on the front windscreen. It was for a Private Detective that did a lot of surveillance. He reckoned the light tint stopped people noticing you as much. The tint guy wasn't happy about doing it as no matter how "dry" you do it, there's still a heap of water that goes behind the dash board & gets on the electrics
The OP was about aftermarket tint hence my reply

sorry to dig up an old thread, but saves creating a new one. I've got a 2015 Octavia RS wagon and need to the windows tinted as I was roasting over this last weekend. I can't find a definitive answer as to whether there is any heat or UV reduction provided by the standard privacy glass at the rear. I just called Skoda/VW and they called back to say that there is 9.9% light reduction and 8.2% heat reduction. I have to question this info as the privacy glass surely cuts out more than 10% of light?

I have 2 month old twin boys so I want as much UV/heat reduction in the rear as I can get. I'll be ordering some shades from superskoda as well.

Anyway, if anyone has actual figures, or some advice as to what tint to use on the rear glass, that would be helpful. If anyone has experience with clear tint I'd be keen to know how effective it is. In WA I think we can go as low as 20% VLT at the rear, so it doesn't necessarily have to be clear tint, but I'm not sure I want a ghetto dark look on the rear glass.

Here are the rules for WA so why not either ring them or go and see them about it

    Hi mate.

I'm in WA with the same car. Spoke to a few tinting places and as there is already tinting on the rear windows they advised me to go with 35% tint over all windows (which lowers the rears close to 20% including factory tint)

I'm happy with the result. Won't let me attach a picture for some reason. PM me if you want me to get some pics to you.

I just got the privacy glass tested at a tint shop.
4% UV pass through and 31% light. He said that's one of the better he's seen. So just getting 35% done on the fronts

Got my dealer to book in my RS to get the front windows matched to the privacy glass and clear film put on the rear, 35%. Called and spoke to the company they outsource to and it's only costing an extra $5 to get it done as opposed to getting it myself, double checked prices at other places as well. Fingers crossed they do a good job, looked up the place doing it and they have a really good reputation it seems, plus it's 3M.

I wish we could legally get something like 25-30% here in Australia (NSW) all around the car. I ordered my car in white and they look so much better with really dark tint.

Plenty of people run 20% without issues. I have 20% and pass at least 4 HWP cars a day and they don't look twice.

I had 28% on my previous car - you couldn't tell it from 35%

Yeah, one of the car tint places I spoke to mentioned the same thing. I'm just a stickler for not voiding my car insurance, I know it would probably never happen but I'm too worried about it haha

We all have different levels of risk we are willing to accept.

Posted in the other thread but curious what others had done with the tint in the rear quarter windows? From the factory there is rubber around the top and sides moulds into a flat bit about .75cm wide which is kinda stuck down. In mine they have cut in at an angle and completely trimmed that away and then cut out a wedge in behind the pillar between it and the window and same all around over to the edge of the door. Also seem to have done it a little down in the sill as well. The tint has bubbled in places so is booked in for Tuesday for the tint guy they used to come and look at it. I'm pretty positive noone else will find such a weird method used, and most would have pried back the rubber and slipped it under it.
