VLT - specs for standard side windows & sunset glass? Plan to tint

Hi all ,anyone know the visible light transmission levels for the sunset glass & the standard side windows which seem to have a very slight green tinge to them. I am planning to put ceramic tint - not too dark, more for blocking UV, but would be nice to know what VLT the car has already. Thanks

Green Is just the color of most tempered glass. 35% vlt is darkest legal in most states (factory privacy glass is allowed darker). I've put 20% on a few cars as in qld I find it much nicer inside than 35% which isn't very dark at all.

Your tint guy will have a VLT meter & know the best way to blend the front windows with the sunset glass. I find it best to take their advice rather than 2nd guess them. Whether you want it legal or not is up to you.

The sunset glass is around 37% VLT, so it's almost darkest legal. Unforunately it doesn't block all of the UV spectrum. Some people apply a clear UV blocker film.

The front side glass is around 80% VLT and the windscreen around 95% VLT.

If you contact Skoda Customer Service they should be able to give you the exact figures. I know there was an anal retentive guy on the forum a few years back that got the figures off VW customer service (same people).

I've run 20% VLT for the past 7 years without issue. It's fantastic on bright cloudless days, particularly in the early mornings / late afternoons if the sun is coming through the side windows. On dark, rainy nights, maybe not so great.

I have excellent long distance & night vision. A mate of mine is short sighted & his night vision is lousy & he can't stand any tint so you need to assess based on your own situation.

I only noticed recently that the new RS wagons at the local dealer had dark privacy tint from the middle pillar back. I intended to get the whole car tinted, but if only the front windows need it then just want it matched. Is the privacy tint standard now on the RS or did the dealer just happen to option it on all his RS wagons. They had tech pack and black pack as well.

Privacy glass is standard on the RS. I got the front tinted to match the privacy glass and had clear film put on the privacy glass for UV protection.

I had my RS done last week. I got the front ones tinted to match the privacy glass on the rear. The guy measured the transmission of be privacy glass as 44% from memory.

Lots of good suggestions, I like the idea of matching the privacy glass tint on the front if it remains legal. Will definitely be putting clear film on the privacy glass as it seems it only blocks ~70% of UV. Will query tinter about measuring the VLT of the existing glass. Living in "sunny" Ballarat so going below legal limit probably not worth it. Thanks and cheers to all.

Hi Venom, you have mentioned the guy you used a few times, did he do it onsite, or at his premises? I'm thinking of just getting it thrown in by the dealer as I find it a pain to get time to get it to someone otherwise.

I did read the other day a modification to the tinting rules that said the windows back from the B pillar could have Limo tint but the drivers and passengers could not.

Also I believe you can only tint the windscreen above the wiper sweep or 100mm whichever is the lesser

The windscreen tint rule refers to aftermarket film. A lot of the french cars have full tinted windscreens ex-factory and certainly, many of the factory band tints exceed the 100mm / highest point of the wiper rule.

When I was getting my Subaru tinted there was a Corolla getting a 90% VLT film put on the front windscreen. It was for a Private Detective that did a lot of surveillance. He reckoned the light tint stopped people noticing you as much. The tint guy wasn't happy about doing it as no matter how "dry" you do it, there's still a heap of water that goes behind the dash board & gets on the electrics
