Have only been able to test the new PS3s off the line but they are definately better than the (admittedly worn) CS2s they replaced. Very difficult to get TC to engage now. Colour me impressed so far.

The overall rating for each tyre needs to be explained - it's not the average of the ratings
The Hankook scored only 73% on rolling resistance - that should have knocked it out of the running
But it beat the Goodyear which has a lowest score of 86 in wet handling

But look at the total scores of all the top tyres - there is nothing in it

And then you need to know who funding the test and article - etc

I think you are all playing with your willys. In the dry, in everyday driving, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between any of the "top brand" name tyres if you didn t know what was fitted to the car.(and probably not in the wet either) Its only your preconceived ideas and brand preference which sways your bias.

What they are saying about the dry handling, pushing wide on turns, just does not correlate with my experience and many other reviews.

I don't know what their rolling resistance rating is all about, low rolling resistance tyres are for fuel economy and typically used in hybrid cards - not to mention the wet braking demonstration on Top Gear, low rolling resistance tyres are terrible at stopping the car in the wet

I had a look at the tyre review web site and discovered something interesting, ContiSportContact5 users are unhappy with tyre wear - that's surprising - given the cost of these tyres it's an issue.

Your starting to over-analyse.

For average drivers like us (I haven't noticed any of us crowing about being signed up to a race team), driving around on lousy Australian roads at our Nanny State speed limits any of those tyres will serve you well.
There won't be a huge amount of fuel penalty if the RR figure is high & keep in mind that low RR tyres are usually less grippy. There's always a trade off.

Total mileage won't be hugely different either and will mainly be dependant on your right foot.

Martin - the people that weren't happy with the mileage of the CSC5. Maybe they had an unrealistic expectation due to marketing of the tyre or TWR # or simply they paid a lot & expected big mileage? What you'd really need is äverage km per tyre to make an objective judgement.

Yeah, good point Brad.

I remember 3 years ago when I first discovered the tyre review site, I actually wasted my time reading a dozen reviews, the poor content (nonsense/rubbish) left me with the strong feeling that general public reviews are not worth much. I tend to pay more attention to the tyre ratings that have had a lot of feedback. The CS5 is a small sample group and may not be a good indication.

Lets turn it around the other way, we've had numerous people on our forum buy the PS3, F1A2, Dunlop and CS5 - none of them have come back and said I'm unhappy cos that tyre is rubbish.

Ended up getting four new PS3s fitted on the weekend. So far, I'm very happy with them. They do seem to be quieter than the CSC2s that they replaced and definitely have better grip (not that I've pushed them that hard yet, so first impressions - I want to make sure they're well 'scrubbed in' first).

On the down side, the ride seems to be a little harsher, being able to feel smaller bumps/ripples in the road. This however, may just be the air pressure in them. I haven't had the chance yet to check them with my own pressure gauge to see if they're at the pressure I normally run at.

Bought them from my local Bob Jane outlet, who were able to match Tempe Tyres price. They did a good price on a 4 wheel alignment too, although they managed to set it with the steering wheel about a degree off-centre, which is a little annoying.

That means they've screwed up - the toe-in will be wrong
Best to go to a different/better place and get it sorted to avoid harming your new tyres
