There's an oil pump on the EA888. No idea about the lesser engines

I had a 1 HD FTE 4.2 TD and had an EGT gauge on it The probe was in the dump pipe and it ran at about 375C normally and when towing up a hill the highest it got was 515C So to say a turbo doesnt get "that hot" wold be a misnomer in my experience.
I meant OUR (or moreso, MY) turbos don't get all that hot, relatively.

No, 1HZ engines weren't turbo'd from the factory, but what stock engine has a turbo timer?

Well none probably due to legality issues and the fact that they can extract money out of you as an aftermarket sale.

I was making a generic comment regarding modern VW turbo engines, the CAV engines run an oil pump to keep oil running through the turbo after shutdown so my assumption that the more modern vag engines would also use the same principle.

most new cars come with water cooled turbos anyway so no need to cool them down, I don't bother with my Octy and I never did with my GTR either and it's turbos never had any issues and it was running 1 bar boost and 240AWKW.

If you're that worried just let it idle for 30 seconds before you turn it off. Don't bother trying to drive off boostas the turbos are so small they spool up too low in the rev range so you are always going to be making boost if you re driving.
