I spent $1,200 getting my tensioner replaced in my Mk6 GTI (same engine as your car so should be a very similar price). It was $980 for the tensioner, 1x new plastic chain guide, new timing case cover, sealant and bolts. Then another $200 for a new dipstick mount as the guys broke it (plastic rubbish).
If i had my time again i would have spent an extra $200 or so and had the chain itself replaced - i was advised at the time not to do it.
The water pump is something i wouldn't replace unless its failed or leaking - quite an expensive little job that one as its labour intensive. The water pump itself is only about $300, but the inlet manifold needs to be removed to gain access to it....and if you are taking the inlet manifold off then you may as well replace that as they are known to have issues and also get your intake valves cleaned as they will be clogged up.......where do you stop?
