Timing Chain Tensioner & waterpump replacement cost Brisbane.

    Hi

I'm new to Skoda, I just got hold of a 2009 Skoda Octavia RS. I looking at having the Timing chain Tensioner updated & water pump replaced asap.
anyone had experience in Brisbane and how much it costs.

I spent $1,200 getting my tensioner replaced in my Mk6 GTI (same engine as your car so should be a very similar price). It was $980 for the tensioner, 1x new plastic chain guide, new timing case cover, sealant and bolts. Then another $200 for a new dipstick mount as the guys broke it (plastic rubbish).

If i had my time again i would have spent an extra $200 or so and had the chain itself replaced - i was advised at the time not to do it.

The water pump is something i wouldn't replace unless its failed or leaking - quite an expensive little job that one as its labour intensive. The water pump itself is only about $300, but the inlet manifold needs to be removed to gain access to it....and if you are taking the inlet manifold off then you may as well replace that as they are known to have issues and also get your intake valves cleaned as they will be clogged up.......where do you stop?

Which engine is in it? In 2009 there were still the MK2s kicking around that were not the facelift ones. If its pre FL, ie more angular headlights and the RS then you need the belt replaced. Sounds like its the updated engine that had a chain, but the tensioner issues.

Just luck of the draw - if its done 110,000km then just leave the water pump till it dies i say (may never die??). If it hasn't died by now you are safe. My 2010 GTI has done 83,000km and water pump is fine.

I don't know that I would want to wait until a water pump dies, it kinda is important to you know, keep the engine from baking itself.

Try Alba European (Jmac on this forum) or Bavaria Motor Tuning Service (BMTS) at Brendale for quotes. My wife's 2009 Tiggy water pump just failed and BMTS replaced it for around $1100 I believe, but as Lucas R mentioned, the majority of this cost was labour I believe.
