I couldn't agree more. I'm on my L's and I started learning on my dad's smallest truck (which is legal to drive as it's under the GVM limit) and while it's an absolute bitch to drive I know that I'm a better driver for it. Reverse parking is also annoying to complete but I'm very confident in using both exterior mirrors to judge distance and space. I'm sorry but if you need a reverse camera (on top of sensors) then you kinda need to learn how to park better! And c'mon, the rear-view vision isn't that bad in Octavias...

Cant justify spending that sort of money without one. Especially cars the length of these vehicles!
if u can't reverse park without the aid of a "camera" - u should hand ur license back and get off the road.

atleast the octavias have a graphical image with radar zones, instead of just beeps, or even worse, nothing at all!!!

i could understand your angst if you were buying something like a HiLux twin cab or an SUV. I dunno, maybe you have a bad parking situation. Whatever, but i don't see lack of rear-view camera beinga show stopper

    Get a broker!
I bought mine from a dealer in Geelong (i live in Adelaide)
I originally was dealing with Solitaire in Adelaide (the only skoda dealer) and they were great, but when i asked the price they said it was retail. So I said there was no way i was going to pay retail. but they wouldnt give me a figure... So i called a broker.. Solitaire wanted 44000 on the road for the car (which wasnt in AUS at the time. I had a chioce of a black manual RS wagon or.. a Black manual RS wagon if i didnt want to wait 4 months). The Broker got me the exact same car for $39200 shipped to Adelaide with a full tank of fuel. By the time i registered it cost me a lil over 41k. A lot cheaper than solitare were offering.
When Solitaire found out they did although match the price but didnt give them the business as i felt they didn't look after me well enough for me to go searching elsewhere.

In answer to " get a broker "
I give best price possible for watercooled members EVERY time & selling Australiawide on internet these days I believe the days of broker are over, you look up ads or info, you enquire & get answer or price etc, the broker does same thing & Free to you , but expects us to pay him for lead, & 9 times out 10 we have already had the same enquiry direct. We buy for X we sell for Y if we have to cover him for $200 or $500 your nett end result to you end user has to be worse. Compare value wherever you buy & most of all make sure you are comparing apples against apples.
Happy Xmas & all best for 2011

The only reason I went through a broker was because I wanted to get the best possible price for the car. Unfortunately in Adelaide there is only 1 skoda dealer and they have a monopoly on the Market. The fact is the broker got me the car I wanted for a really decent price. He got paid to find me the car and everyone is happy. Saved me the time ringing around the dealers getting a better price on the exact and only rs wagon in australa. He never tried to screw me over. I paid him to do what he did and in the end I'm happy with my purchase and that's all that matters. Besides the dealer I got the car from benefitted in the end coz they got my finance so everyone wins.

Also from experience building a relationship with a dealer in the end doesn't mean squat. Most of the time you buy a car and you never hear from the person you bought the car from. My xr5 I bought from a dealer. They gave me their crappy extended warranty and all it did in the end is cost me heartache and I confidently say I got locked into keeping the servicing at that dealership for exorbant prices and bad service. 3 years down the track when it comes to warranty claims they don't want to honour anything and the socalled extended warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on.
