Things I'd like to improve on my Skoda:

My biggest concern is the seat fabric. It seems very very thin and easy to wear down. Has anyone who has had their Skoda for a while got anything to say about these? Are they tougher than they appear?

depends on your version of a while, but mine is at 120,000km and the fabric is holding up... can't say the same for the seat back drivers side bolster though.

Well I have a 118TSI my12 with a thin cotton material on the seats... Is that the same material as yours?

I have a 2007 118tsi. It isn't cotton, it's synthetic blend (possibly with some wool but I doubt it).

My drivers seat has lots of pilling because of the stupid velcro tabs on my work uniform but apart from that it's fine. It has endured whatever the dog/kids have dished out to it.

Velcro on my arse-pockets have ripped up some of the chair. It looks really dodgy. :/

Coming from a MY02 Mitsubishi Verada wagon, the main thing I noticed about my RS was the road noise, so a bit more insulation and sound deadener would be nice. There are actually quite a few "tinny" sounding spots - roof, bonnet (TSI doesn't have the insulating pad) and bottom half of the doors.
My other gripes are:
- no tilt adjustment in the head restraints (apparently the pre-FL have this adjustment)
- having to bend arm and wrist at an awkward angle around the storage bin lid (yes, it is pushed all the way back!!) to pull the handbrake lever
- lack of indication of wiper mode (common complaint in this thread, it seems)
- would've been nice to have a proper alloy wheel in the spare, so it could be rotated out with the road wheels, even if it was an extra cost option (I think Holden do this), that way, you don't have an ageing spare tyre that's had little to no usage. My Verada had an alloy spare that was the same as the four road-wheels, so it was regularly swapped out.

Other than that, it's a cracking car, I have almost as much fun punting it through a set of twisties as I do on my bike! And... it's different from a lot of the other ridiculously over-designed stuff on the roads now. I'm proudly still "the only Skoda in the carpark" at work!

The tilt adjustment went away with the introduction of the WOKS headrests. Has happened in lots of other cars now too, including my Santa Fe, also means everyone has their headrest pushing their body away from the seat. ONly cure I have found is to tilt the seat more, although the Santa Fe does have some adjustment in it, but still intrudes at the lowest setting.

mine came with an alloy spare (though I have since swapped the wheels anyway).

My 2 cents on a MY12 118TSI wagon;

- +1 for poor auto wipers,
- I have had the auto headlights get stuck on a few times,
- need a light on the dash to show side mirror heaters are on,
- the boot requires a little too much force to close. I often find I have to shut it twice.

Something I noticed recently on my MY12 90TSI wagon is that the graphic/diagram of the car that appears on the MFD that indicates which doors are open are of a sedan/liftback instead of a wagon. Am I the only one with this 'feature'? Not that it really matters much, but the diagram of the car that appears on the stereo display when reversing is (correctly) of a wagon.
