    Tail light problem on MFD

    Hi Gents

Bought a new trailer on the weekend and before I left the place all the lights were checked and were working. Driving home it got a little dark and the lights auto started as they do on the Octavia's. I then got a message on the MFD saying to check the right rear tailight.

When I got home I checked the lights and they are all good. So I'm confused here.

I assume the Octavia must do a voltage check to determine if the lights are operating or not. Also how does it know the right tailight is the problem when the 7 pin square plug only has the one plug/socket for tail, clearance and side lights?

Do I just replace all the globes to be safe? As this is my trailer it's going to drive me nuts having the light symbol on all the time when driving in the dark. Have towed plenty of other trailers with the Octavia before and when the MFD has faulted a light it was spot on.

BTW the lights on the trailer aren't LED ones.

    Thanks

    Who installed your towbar?
    Is it a genuine one?

It's a Best Bar towbar installed by Box Hill Towbars. I had Richmond Skoda program the wiring to the ECU. As mentioned though it hasn't been a problem on other trailers.

Sorry. I honestly have no idea. :S

As of yet, I have zero experience with the trailer wiring harness

Perhaps put a post through on the tow bar woes thread?

when did you last tow with another trailer? Might be just a dirty connection, might have been fine when your new trailer was connected, but a little vibration and it's enough to cause a 'glitc" to trigger the light. It sometimes does this on mine, a quick clean with CO2 cleaner on both the car & trailer plugs and all is good.

Could be rite about the dirty connector(s) cause when it was 1st connected no warning light came up. Will give the connectors a clean and see. Thanks

Funny, I have the identical problem. With some troubleshooting, I know that this only happens when the headlights are on - otherwise it's all as normal.

I've reported it at the last service, along with my crazy stereo problems so it is going back in May for some warranty work.

My problem was exactly the same as yours except I had just changed from bulbs to LEDS. I connected an LED Load Resistor to the brown and white wires on the number plate side taillight, after advice fron Idle and AdamD. I believe, as you rightly said, there is only one taillight wire (brown) to both taillights. The car must think there should only be one light connected so it thinks there is a problem because 2 sets of lights are drawing power. Anyways, I purchased an LED Load Resistor from Repco ($17) and it fixed the problem. See my link below. I hope it helps.

In the 7-pin connector, there are:
    LH.IND
    RH.IND
    S.BRK
    BRK
    TAIL
    GND
    AUX

    Not in that order.
Aux. can be things like: Battery charging; reverse lamps; fridges, lights for caravans, etc.

That looks to be the same problem I've got and I'm pretty sure what you have done will work for me. I'll give it a go. Thanks heaps!
