I had the same. VW claimed it was the HPFP over fuelling when cold. I changed it along with the cam follower and MAF. Is is perfect again. Not sure which part did the trick. Cam follower was fairly worn. Fuel consumption came down straight away with the new MAF.

I'd like to just add to this that the HPFP follower only has wear issues on the TFSI engine, as the TSI uses a roller rather than a flat plate.

What would cause a MAF to fail or wear out?

Even though it has the roller type inside of it was flattened down compared to the new one, the roller part was fine, it was just where the HPFP sat inside, it looked warn flat. The new one I put in was a different design again, perhaps there has been a part number change since 2010 to now. It was still the roller type but different.

Age is what might cause the MAF to fail. These fail gradually over time.

Ah I see. It might be worth me investigating the follower in mine - I hadn't realised the TSI follower could fail.

My idle shuddering seems to be linked somehow to the climate system. I can feel it changing or even stopping as I turn the AC on or off etc.

The radiator fans spin faster when the A/C is on I'd say a few things behave differently when it's on.

Yeah makes sense. Well I think I can scratch what I said, as I was playing around with it in traffic the other day and I there are times when no matter what I turn on or off, the shuddering does not go away. I've got my car going in this weekend to have the sum pan replaced (after some monkey severely over tightened the bolt) so I'll ask them to take a quick look...

Just thinking...Could it be the DSG playing up??

I have now done everything as suggested above, plus more....
    The issue still persists....

I am wondering if it is DSG related instead?

Same sort of issue on my MY15 1.4tsi Yeti, Just let it warm up for 30sec (or until it stops sort of sounding like a boat engine) then its fine...
