    I'm just under 30k now, and still have heaps of tread left on my Michelin PE2s, tempted to stay with them really. I can't fault them...at this rate with the tread I can see left, they probably will last to 50k...

    Just looking at the specs, those 235 size tyres have a min width of 8", and even the PE2s and the PS3s only just fit the RS wheels at 7.5" with the 225 size tyre. It is legal to go up one size, but if the tyre spec itself says it shouldn't be on those rims then I would be a bit suss about the dealer who ignored that.

    I've done it before, but it was still within the tyre spec, I think Michelin might claim not at fault if something happened there, as they do say the specs publically.

    I'd be checking with my insurance company before I put on any tyres that weren't on the tyre placard. If they said it was OK I'd want it written on the policy.

    Checked with a local dealer, they reckon Michelin dropped the pe2s some months back and offer the ps3 instead but at 418 a tyre.

    Also said it's ok to pit the 235 on those rims but they don't recommend it.

    ^^ Yes, the Michelin PP2 was replaced a while back by the PS3. Did they quote you $418 per corner for 225 40 18s. If so, you must consider getting tyres in from Tyre Rack. You would save a fortune. For instance, for the 225 40 18s

    Look HERE for their range....in your size...

    Or look HERE for the OEM tyres that came on my Mrs VRS Wagon.


    Even with freight, strip - fit - balance, you will save a fortune.

    Yeah I know about tire rack, but the hassles with importing with them have increased recently, they also have jacked up the shipping....so still not sure. My tyres have tonnes of tread left so was aiming for PE2s again, but if they are being sold off until run out, maybe its worth not bothering with them now. The PS3s replaced the PE2s and not so much the PS2s which are still being sold.

    What hassles ? I have a few friends who have just imported sets of tyres with no dramas. Most sets will set you back under a grand, so you shouldn't have any drama with customs duties. Even if you do, you will still save money.

    I am currently organising a set for my own car. Even if they have "jacked" up the shipping (I am not commenting on this), you are saving hundreds and hundreds of dollars over those crazy quoted prices I have seen on this thread. I know where I'll be getting tyres from when its time for the Wifeys car to get new shoes. Anyways, I was only offering it as a suggestion....tyres are an individual choice.

    I wondered what the hassles were too. I've had several mates buy from tirerack & it sounded like a quick & troublefree operation. Tyres arrive in < 7 days - one mate bought from tirerack because Michelin couldn't supply for 4-6 weeks.

    if one was to import the tyres, how much would it cost, approx/avg, to get the old ones off, and the new ones fitted & balanced.
    wat sorta prices we looking at to get 4 tyres in?
