Projecting my current wear rate on the front tyres,
Interesting, as my diesel is wearing faster on the front than I would have suspected at 13000km.

I am running 36psi at the front, on conti's. They are wearing fairly evenly, but a tad more on the shoulders. With a heavy diesel engine over the wheels, I am not surprised at the wear difference, just surprised at the high rate at the front. I dont think I will get past 25000km.

In comparison, the A3 tdi still on its first set of tyres (Michellin Primacy) at 65,000km. I reckon I can get another 10000 out them too.

    2013 - Octavia RS wagon - 1z - Race Blue - TDI - 6M - Leather - MDI - Whispbar S44W - LED interior kit - RVC forward?/retrofit - Mk3 gear shifter
    2021 - Q3 S-Line wagon - F3 - Daytona Grey - Westfalia towbar - no other options available.

The 2.0L TDI and TSI Octavia wagons are within 20kg - so weight is not an issue

Frequently going around roundabouts is something that hammers the outside shoulder
You can move the left tyre to the right wheel making the outside edge the inside edge to get a bit more life out of the tyres

My car came with CS2's - they were down by 50% at 16k, so yes, it appears they give less km than other options
The TyreReview web site shows the CS2 and CS5 are typically rated very low for wear

I got 46,000km out of the OEM CSC2 205/55r16 down to 2mm (that's my minimum. Wear bars are 1.5mm)

Khumo KU31 235/45r17would have worked out at 20,000km as I got them with 5mm & it took 10,000km to get them to 2mm.

Michelin Primacy HP 225/55r16 gave me 70,000km and they were more like 2.5mm remaining. New owner intends running them for a while. They are very much a touring tyre though.

Currently Bridgestone RE050A 225/50r17 have 18,000km on them and are almost half down so proably good for 40,000km. Grip levels of these things are noticeably higher than any of the previous tyres I've had on the car.

I have a lot of respect for the RE050 - very good tyre (but needs to be warmed up in the wet)
Unfortunately the typical pricing of this tyre have been a problem for me

Yep. Bit overpriced in the past - $300-$500. They're a bit more competitive now they are becoming a somewhat old pattern.

I didn't pay full freight. $400 with Audi rims. They had 7mm tread remaining.

Michelin with Audi rims were similar money as were the Khumos but they had BBS lightweight rims. I sell the rims when the tyres a bald so the last 100k of tyres has cost me about $700 net

After a couple of years, I've still got my Pzero Nero's. Other than being a bit louder, I can't see too much performance difference to the OEM Conti's and I have 50k out of them so far with about 2/3 wear. I never get more than 40k out of tyres (I think I got ~35k out of the OEMs). So 50k for me is amazeballs. For the price, they turned out to be pretty good (but a bit noisy).

Edit: I was just looking at this tyre on the tyre review site. Lots of people complaining about performance in the wet. Maybe its the Octy's setup, but I think they do pretty well in the wet (if you want to see poor performance in the wet, see my 14 year old ford ute )

I can recommend the conti sc5... Have them on my XR5 turbo and performance and comfort are great.

I had 235's on 7.5's and they were fine. Hankook Ventus V2 Concept, not a narrow tyre to begin with.
They looked a bit bulgy but performance was great.
I have 18x8's now so its really a moot point, on my car. (Ventus S1 Evo2's now)
2012 Octavia vRS TDI. Darkside big turbo, 3bar tune, other stuff. 200kW/650Nm.

Bulgy is a pretty subjective thing. If the tyre manufacturer says no and an accident happens, your insurer will be very objective in a no...
