Know what you guys saying about the Pirelli Cinturato P1..
But I found them at $169 a corner.. seems too good to resist..

But thinking, if I'm only going to do this once, might as well go the PS3 but at nearly $100 a corner more . hmmm..

Shows that it's OK..... Not sure who to believe. A mate did it on his Mondeo, no issues he can tell

Edit: I know the Mondeo is 8" rims, but lots of places say 235 on 7.5 is OK.... Hmmmm
It would depend on the brand of tyre. You've linked to a generic compatabilty calculator. I'd double check with the Michelin techos because databases are wrong all the time but for a 235/40r18 PS3 the rim range appears to be 8-9.5.

Other brands in the same size might allow a 7.5" fitment. It depends on what case they are using. At Goodyear, the 215/70r14 was made from the same case as a 205/70r14 with more rubber on it. 215/70r14 was low volume size so it saved some money and they could sneak in a small production run without doing heaps of tooling changes. When built it was right at the minimum dimensions for that size. The equivalent Bridgestone was noticeably bigger.

Yokohama were always a small case too and a lot of their tyres were factory approved for a smaller width rim.

A good tyre place will know which brands have a small case & will fit IAW the manufacturers recomendations.

edit: I'm not saying don't do it but I think people should know all the facts before making a decision.

235-170 = $65 but I see your point. Give them a try & prove the critics wrong

edit: How much are they at Tempe Tyres?

Agreed. In not a tyre fitter, so asking questions I'd always a good thing. Ask enough people and you will be able to gauge what the general consensus is

    At Tempe - 235 for the PS3, but I didn't ask about the p1.

At Jax they do the PS3 for 269 and p1 for 169.

Jax didn't want to fit 235s as a substitute

Tempe I heard are a bit iffy to deal with but prices are great. But a pain for me to drive to.

Every hour I'm thinking just spend the extra and be done with it, and every other hour I'm thinking.. Why do I need the extra performance if 95% of the time I'm just driving to and from work and school .. I'll get more Kms from the p1s too.

Tempe are great to deal with. They used to be a pack of dodgeys but that was >10years back. You don't keep 7 fitting bays busy 10hrs/day, 7 days a week being dodgey.
I have really high standards when it comes to service, politeness, respect & honesty & I have no issues sending my Sister or other family members there without me holding their hand. I'm not a habibi either.

In theory you might get more km (TWR 420 Vs TWR380) but in reality it will be about the same. The Michelin leans towards high performance, the Pirelli leans towards touring.

Give Tempe a ring. I bet they are around $150 for 225/40r18.

    I seriously doubt that
Here are the review results from the TyreReview web site
The wear rating is very poor over a relatively low number of km

This is the same data for the Goodyear F1A2 - look at the km's

The rear tyres don't wear much on the Octavia RS
Projecting my current wear rate on the front tyres,
looks like my Goodyear F1A2 are headed for ~50k
(I have huge brakes and generally use the power/cornering often)

Goodyear F1A2 $195 per wheel at the International Tyre Trader

Also available at Taleb Tyres Tempe for $199 each

Yeah I wouldn't use that logic at all, I've had many counterparts get pushed into the Pirelli versions of what I told them to get and be very disappointed, uneven and high wear usually the main gripe. My OEM Michelins are still going at 60k, I was astounded when a friend with a higher km RS told me how long his lasted as he always burns through tyres with his spirited driving and living on the side of a mountain.

Ours are just starting to look worn on the shoulders now, but still plenty of tread depth left.

    Thanks Martin.
I've settled for the PS3 at Jax. Figured if I'm gonna be stuck with them for 2-3 years might as well goo with one of the recommended here.

Just wonder if the extra "performance" means anything to a driver like myself

Well, if you don't use the performance they will last even longer, you also have a huge safety margin

I have several friends who have had unfortunate accidents where conditions and tyre traction were factors
It's nice to factor that out (especially if it's a family car)

To be honest, I am surprised with the durability of the PS3 and F1A2
I have never before had a tyre with both high performance and good durability

The PS3 is more comfortable on a daily grind basis than the F1A2
