The Octy III is probably too new to be able to be done by a locksmith. Dealer is likely to be your only option unfortunately. I was quoted a similar price for a new key for my previous car (a 2012 Ford Focus).

It's pretty outrageous how expensive it is. The only real reason it costs so much is that until the car's coding has been cracked and locksmiths can do it, there's no competition

Yep i lost them both, not awesome, though mine are for an octy ii. Is this price a dealership quote or a locksmith business? I was hesitant at first about contacting Audi (that's who deals with skoda in my hood in NSW) and so i got a business to come and do it in the driveway. Mistake! Half wits thinking they know it all ****ed around for a few days and flattened my battery.....anyways. Ended up getting a quote from Audi for $488, keys supplied and coded at the dealership. Much easier for vw, audi or whatever to access the data and such for programming the keys (maybe half hour job) than having some ****ers screw you around while they have to backwards engineer the process and take up a bunch of time. Audi keys are $500 a piece, skoda two for the price of one...bargain...

    Bargain for the Octy Keys.

I got a replacement key for the A4 9 years ago and i was 280 pounds at the exchange rate of 38pence to the dollar.(700AUD in 2006) (I was int he UK at the time) Audi had to get the code from Germany for the key and it took about 6 hours from the time I dropped the car off till I got the whole lot back. That was certainly not kessy either.

I would ring other dealers in perth and see what you can wrangle.

If any of you folk need keys done, give Matt at Camden GTI a ring and ask who he uses. The guy hasn't been stumped yet

Good idea on giving Audi a call. Will see what they say.

Update: Got my keys and now have my RS back yipeee! 2 keys $488 total, from Audi centre newcastle. Bad news is, the dipsticks who tried to make keys in my driveway for me are going to have to pay for the instrument cluster they broke so I'll have to wait for that... When it rains it pours. Anyone in the Newcastle and hunter thinking about getting keys made onsite for their skoda please PM me befor you do so i can fill you in.

Great price. Did you get a chance to check difference in price between Octavia II and III?
