Took Octavia home today.
Went for a couple of hundreds of km`s and my verdict so far is: Very nice car and it feels way more expensive than what I end up paying.
Difficult to find any faults but if I really have to then I would say the 1st gear seems a bit short and is on/off power delivery which I`m sure after some practice it will feel better, average fuel consumption according to the car computer is 6.5 which is a bit off from 5.7 as the manual says having said that I drove quite some in the city plus up the hills in the hinterland and with the A/C on, also the engine is more or less brand new and will take some time to loosen up.
The drive up the mountains was a breeze, it certainly got some serious torque in that 2.0 l engine!
The boot is massive for the size of the car which comes in very handy for all that beer.....
It might be odd but I actually like the diesel "noise" and do not think it is too loud even if it is not a CR engine.
This car made me a very happy camper now I just have to work out everything regarding the stereo and all the other technical bits.

I recently sold my 2 3/4 year old 60000klm 1z RS wagon for smack dab in the middle of its redbook range which exceeded the lease residual payout. So on my calculations it held 62.8% of its value.

If you are getting 6.5L/100 on run-in then you aren't driving with enough "gusto". To bed-in nicely, these engines need to get some pressure behind the rings & you need to be using 1/3-2/3 throttle; stay out of 5th/6th gear & keep the engine somehere near peak torque revs for the first tank of fuel.

It will take at least 5,000km to loosen up & about 15,000km for the process to complete. You will notice significant drops in consumption during that time.

Bah, Humbug,......When I got my New Transporter T5 TDi , I drove it nearly straight away to W.A. and back, nearly all 8,000 kms chugging along at 110 km/h. It used about 1/2 litre of oil in the first 5k kms and none after that. Probably not what is recomended for running in.

My vRS diesel has 20,000km plus on it now and the fuel consumption has not altered much since day one. The first tank averaged 6.69L/100km and the most recent 6.496L/100 km. Overall I've averaged 6.5L/100km for the whole 20k. I do notice a drop on long runs but like most people I drive reasonable regular routes in similar traffic conditions.
Likewise running in. In my last two Land Rover diesels there was a noticeable point around 12-14k where all of a sudden the vehicle felt "right". That didn't happen on the Skoda it really feels much the same as it did when it was new.
