Hi guys,
i have a 2011 Octavia RS TDi with the 6 speed manual. In first gear the motor won't rev past 3500. Is this a built in thing or is there a problem? The motor is hot when I've done it so I've ruled out some kind of cold running rev limiter. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Karl

Hi Spud,
It only free revs to 2500 without being in gear, I'm guessing yours would be the same?
Ive done some more driving and it does the same in second. It's an abrupt cut off and stuttering. I'm guessing it's some kind of sensor or programming issue?
It has a TDI-tuning chip boost and fuel rail tuning box. I'm unsure if it did it before I fitted that or not as Ive only just bought it.
It's a 2011 model and bought it second hand. I've only just noticed it as I didn't drive it hard until the weekend. There are no check engine lights, I'm getting about 4.5/100 out of it so economy is good and performance up to 3500 is still fantastic! I'm not sure it has launch control and it isn't a flash tune it's just a tune box off eBay, but apparently a good reputable brand?
Forget the economy lol ... You didn't Rev past 2500 when test driving?
No check engine lights... Points towards the tune box.
Can you flash back to stock or not.

I didn't stick it in neutral when stationary and rev it to 2500, no. I don't remember revving it past 3500 when moving either coming from an old school diesel I didn't want to flog it. I could remove the box and see how that goes though?
Speak to previous owner maybe ... And remove box. That's what I'd do .. See how that goes.

Thanks for that! Took it down to Camden GTi. Put the scan tool on and it said there was a fault with the fuel pressure regulator which the tuning box plugged into. Took it off and it's fine now! Now to get a refund... Oh and like usual the service at Camden GTi was amazing, can't recommend them enough! Thanks all for your help!
Good stuff dude. Make sure you do a 'proper' test drive next time
