    Skoda Octavia RS Exhaust Mod

    Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've had my TSI RS for over a year now and am now getting the modification itch... I feel the only thing the RS really lacks is a nice exhaust note, so I'm looking at getting a new cat-back 'zorst. Hoping it'll get rid of that resonance at ~3000rpm too (as discussed in another thread).

I've had a look at Milltek, APR and Jetex - does anyone have any experience with these? Recommended dealers? I have a fairly limited budget (<$1000) Any installation difficulties? I have access to a hoist and want to install it myself...

    Cheers,

    Rob

I don't know if something changed with the last update of engines in the current RS, but my pre facelift doesn't have any rasp or rattle and definitely no droning, it does have the growl and I know from changing exhausts before, its really hard to get a nice exhaust note without the drone.....Mx-5s always seem to have it right....and I've been really happy with my RS.

My Pre-FL 12/2007 Wagon never made anything other than a wonderfully rich exhaust note.. never sounded tinny, and a few GTI owners i passed wished their GTI sounded as good.

It's not that it sounds bad. It's more that it just sounds a bit, well, nothing... And I'm big on exhaust changes - completely changed the character of my bike - Honda VTR250 Madaz exhaust

I've found an Invidia on superskoda.com, but it has a strange path, out under the center of the car - has anyone purchased this one? I'm also a bit hesitant about superskoda after reading a few things about them and how slowly they reply to my emails...

speak to Arthur @ Exoticars in North Parramatta (Exoticars) in Sydney and he will be able to help you with a very nice custom exhaust

otherwise Lucas from GIAC down in Melbourne also has some great hookups.

friend vince got a DP, Intake and the GIAC Chip and was over 160 @ the front wheels. He didnt want sound however so didnt opt for a full exhaust! .. machine of a car!

If it's anything like the GTI, seems the first resonator around the back wheels is the noise limiter, with the big rear pancake not doing all that much really. Might be a lot cheaper to look at replacing the resonator with a hotdog, 42 draft designs have inexpensive resonator deletes for the VW platforms along these lines, and you can listen to soundclips, on the GTI at least....perhaps something to check out on their website, I haven't seen this option before.

Might be something to consider as a first step before trying to source a cat back.

One Off Made Exhaust Vs Recognized Performance Exhaust!

Hi Guys this is a very touchy subject when it comes to exhausts – As an owner of 5 VAG cars I can speak with some genuine knowledge!
No one off exhaust system is going to match a professionally designed and built exhaust system. I have had both!

I drive, Jetta 2.0 - Golf Cabrio 2.0 - Caravelle 2.5 - Audi TT Quattro - Passat 1.8T and each car has had the exhaust system replaced!

The one off exhaust is all trial and error and will never give the expected attributes of what one is looking for in replacing a standard factory exhaust.

The one off system made at any local exhaust shop is mainly about price concessions…and let me tell you this is wrong big time!
You will pay more in costs and in terms of frustrations as I did when I went down this path…let me explain!

The one off system is not going to fit perfectly – It will require heaps of adjustments’ so it sits right, it will require some work to make sure the warning lights don’t go off…and They will! This is all to do with oxygen sensors and emission sensors built into all Modern cars.

It will have tailpipes sitting to far back or too far forward – it will need to be matched to downpipe and cat – this is not easy because very few if any exhausts shops know what type of cat was fitted at factory… in terms of size and cell performance of the cat, it will not deliver the power gains as it will either be too big in diameter or too small…so all the torque is now gone! And the sound is awful to say the least – it’s Bloody Loud and your neighbors’ can hear your every move…even as you try to sneak home at wee small hours in the middle of night! 

Plus the stainless steel used is going to turn bluish black because of ill fitting and poorly matched performance problems – the steel is not operating at normal operating temperature. So then you will have a badly stained or pitted exhaust system, Now tell me is this worth it??

I have had all of these issues before – so DON’T DO IT!!

Now for the same money as muffler shop system – You can buy a system that has been designed to avoid ALL OF THESE ISSUES LISTED ABOVE!
You Get an Awesome Exhaust, Guaranteed Performance Increase’s , No Badly Fitting Issues, No Degradation of Stainless Steel – It will Look Awesome for the Life of your Life of your Car!! No Warning Lights or Sensor Issues to deal with!! And the Sound is Sweet…Even in the Middle of the Night!

Now You Might Think This Sounds Like Commercial - But It’s Not…I’m Not Mentioning any Brands…But If you want to know what I think – Just ask!

You make an awful lot of statements that are arguable. Perhaps you have been to poor exhaust shops, or haven't known what to ask for...

    Muffler shop vs Performance exhausts

I do know what i'm on about and know about exhausts...living in California and Sydney
i have seen them all...If you drive a Holden a local muffler shop is fine - But we drive VAG and they require something a little more than holdens of ford falcons. lol
