I've often thought that, my MkV Golf Sportline has less soft-touch on the inside than my parents Octy RS and it has a few rattles (the Octy has none). Having said that, the climate controls of the Golf are nicer/better damped, as is the blue (vs green) interior lighting.

Pretty much yep. I'd still buy the Skoda though, they're far more practical and I don't see why Skodas have to be priced less than VW's.

they just need to push the marketing out here. hardly see ads for them.

although I see a 0% finance ad all the time on TV now. which is great IMO

The article reinforces why Skoda is popular in the UK:product + price + good dealer support. In Australia Skoda is stagnating. Why? It has 1/3 of these only.

Also, unlike here, for better or worse the product was sold continuously so even though older Skodas had a poor reputation they were at least known and had some recognition to work with. There were also enough people who had positive experiences with the old models that they were prepared to keep buying. When better product started appearing there was a base to work from, and Skoda has kept pricing very competitive.

If VAG prices Skoda at VW equivalence the current situation is likely to continue. As people in the know you might choose a Skoda. Most people know VW and attribute some prestige to it, don't know Skoda and see no value in risking an unknown brand.
