That's a pretty good ad! Although opening the door into the wall... Ouch!

I suppose when you don't own the car...

A bit like those in the celebrity races. Make them leave a deposit and you would see them all driving much more sedately.

Unlike the celebrity races, there is a real purpose to the way the teams drive those cars - the bikes move along quickly and the teams need to respond to their riders needs ASAP else they can really be disadvantaged. And the exposure that Skoda would get over 3 weeks is immense.

In one day races and smaller tours, the teams drive cars that they own (or are supplied by their sponsors) and these are pretty battered by the end of the season so it's not a matter of mistreatment because they just don't care.

On last night's telecast, you could clearly see the Rabobank team Skoda (or maybe Euskadel - it was orange!) had a badly crumpled nose.

I'm not sure about the marketing thinking behind showing your products being abused. In the past it's something that manufacturers have done from time to time with 4WD's (Toyota "Bugger" campaign) but I can't recall it being used for cars before.
It will be interesting to see if the ad makes it across to the other networks after the Tour de France finishes.

Now who wants to buy an ex Tour Down Under car early next year?
