    Skoda DSG out of warranty

    G'day.

I have an issue with my Skoda Superb. Sorry for cross-pollinating forums, but I thought I would ask here as there are more octavia owners with the 7spd DSG box my car has than superb owners, hence I am hoping for a greater spread of responses.

I have a 2011 118TSI Superb estate. Its got approx 78,000 km on the clock, of which I've contributed approx 35,000km since I bought it approx 18 months ago. It ran out of warranty in August last year. I have maintained it IAW the logbook schedule using an independent licensed mechanic.

Overall its a great car and I am glad I bought it. However, I have noticed during the last 6 months that it has a slight DSG shudder between 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3rd. The shudder only appears when the transmission is getting 'worked' (e.g. I am in stop-start traffic or I am taking off from a standstill on an up-slope)

As most of my driving is on country roads, I dont encounter the shudder too often. It only appears on the less frequent occasions that I am 'in town'. Hence I haven't been too bothered by it. I am also cogniscant of the fact that my car is out of its 3 year warranty, and dont really want to fork out several grand for a DSG repair.

I am considering taking it to my local Skoda dealer to take a look, but I am wondering what experiences others have had in my position.
Does Skoda contribute anything towards the repair of DSGs when out of warranty?
Has anyone had luck pushing Skoda to honour the 5 year DSG warranty reportedly offered by Audi and VW on select models?
Should I even bother getting the transmission looked at if the symptoms arent getting any worse or more frequent (they arent currently)?

    Sorry for the long post!

Worth a shot as it's not that long out of warranty. You'd have a better chance if they had been servicing it.

Yes, Skoda has contributed to the repair of various major engine components well out of warranty. One of the guys on here recently had his DSG6 overhauled well out of warranty & with substantial mileage on it.

The dealer might be reluctant to help so you may have to prod them along & remind them of their obligations under your statutory warranty rights which extend beyond the manufacturers warranty (have a look at the ACCC website). I can almost guarantee that their initial diagnosis will be "they all do that".

You may also need to escalate to Skoda AU.

Document all correspondance including verbal. Follow up verbal promises with an email confirming the content of the conversation.

Would this the same 7sp that VW did the recent recall on? My wife's golf 118 (prob a 2011) was recalled, dunno what the actual fix was.

    same gearbox

That recall was for incompatible fluid that was degrading the wiring in the gearbox.

Definitely take it back to Skoda and ask for a goodwill repair considering it is only just out of warranty as it definitely sounds like a clutch issue..

I bought my 2010 Octavia RS in July 2013 and it had 1 month left on warranty.. By the end of the year (nov 2013), the shuddering that was evident was clearly an issue and not "normal behaviour" according the Skoda.

I took it back to Skoda and raised the issue and said that something like this should be fixed under warranty as the issue has been with the car since brand new. Along the way, it was alot of taking the car in for tests etc, they replaced the mechatronics unit twice.. Yes, TWICE.. and then they finally replaced the clutches and now the car is smoooth... Unfortunately for me, the clutches were only replaced the other week so it took almost a year and a half, but atleast now its fixed...

Moral of the story - get down there asap and get them to go to bat for you..
