Yep a Jan build will appear way later, April, May, maybe even June..
Wouldn't that mean you wouldn't get a car until March 2012 at the earliest?I have stated at the outset to the dealer that I do not want the car plated 'built' until 2012, preferably Jan. I'm not in any hurry. To be honest, if the dealer is going to make a nice little Nth Qld profit from me, then I can at least get a little more value for my dollar by making them work for it.

The compliance plate month/year is one thing as this is applied when the last item requiring ARD compliance is fitted. In many cases, this is the last seatbelt.
The buildmonth/year is controlled by the factory and so you will have to wait until a shipment after January 1 that has vehicles built after January 1.
Getting build and compliance year is very difficult very soon after the new year. This is why many will buy mid year as it is easier to specify this.
This said, dealers are also well aware of this, so you should be able to get a good deal to more than compensate for this. I see that Holden are offering something like $9,500 worth of extras for 2011 plated vehicles.
Volkswagon have finally confirmed they can install the CD player and remove the GPS/map unit (which they can then install in a Yeti or whatever else they decide to do with it). They will leave the plug and antenna installed.
Off to the dealer on Sat, wet season permitting, to get final price. They are chasing quiet hard now and keen to make the sale so hopefully they will be sensible.
Arrival in Aust Jan sometime, delivery to me in mid Feb, although I'm not in any particular hurry so it doesn't really matter.
Thanks everyone who offered helpful opinion and info. Your intelligent input was much appreciated!I've directed a few friends who are car hunting to the thread and they've also appreciated the info people have posted as they had never heard of Skoda before. Perhaps there will be a few more driving around the 'ville soon, although I hope not too many!

I specified the Bolero 6 stack. The sat nav is about $2000 if chosen as an option (according to their orignal quote) and the Bolero comes in a couple hundred less from memory. The sat nav only has one extra DVD drive or something like that. Plus I've asked them to leave the plug and antenna so if anyone wants to fit it one day when I sell it, it won't be much trouble. I'm not paying for it or labor and they are fitting the spotlights free as well.
Finally signed off today. I said I would come back with the final price so here it is.
All the options I wanted, except changed my mind back to the standard sat nav instead of the CD changer. A certain white knight offered to sort out my music for me, all 20 odd CD's I own, so I don't think it'll take him long (heh heh). $44,000. Delivery April or thereabouts.
As always, I feel I could have got more off but I would have been happy at $45 so enough is enough I think. There are fitting the unibar and spotties free once I buy them. I have to say it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be.
And on Friday 13th too! I take that as a good omen.
Thanks to everyone for the input. I hope someone else is helped by the posts here as much as I was.
Cheers,
Michelle
