If you have two young kids and you think you can plan 4 years ahead - good luck!

I know that some people take their time before they buy. But the dealer could start thinking that the buyer is not serious.

Yes i well remember buying the occy back in o8 , took a tiguan for a test , easy decision , tall bus or sport wagon .

The scout , thats the answer , would have been perfect back then after a liberty wagon .

    I just bought a car.

Did my research over a few months, then only this week "Yep, time to buy a car"

Emailed some dealers Monday nite, got my answers Tuesday, went and had a chat Wednesday, got the deal I was after at the first dealer, got finance approved today, and will pick up next week.

    No stuffing around here.

So, the first price (without haggle) is

    Vehicle $39,990
    Options $ 4,859
    DDelivery etc $ 4,513
    TOTAL $49,362

I think I should be able to get them down $2,000 without too much trouble to start with, maybe $3000 if they are really keen...what do you think? Bearing in mind the 'penality' DDelivery we pay up here. I think it's around $1500 - $2000 more than Brisvegas etc but not certain.
WHHHAAAAAT, $4,500 pre delivery!! Forget the CD player, if I was you I would be more concerned with the disgraceful conduct of the dealer for even having the gall to put that on paper. Pre delivery would have an actual cost to dealer of around $4-500, that all mechanical, fuel, detailing. The whole kitten caboodle ready for you to come pick it up so I know their is at least $4,000 you can wipe off before you even touch on their margin.

I realise the margins are small, maybe $15-1600 but you would be mad to ask for $2-3k off and settle for as little as $2k.

Yeti is a different ball game and nobody really knows the margin in them apart from the dealers as they haven't been out long enough to gather anything other than RRP. But it is new and the hot ticket for now, so to a point small discounts are to be expected.

As for the scout it's almost end if life, you can do better me's thinks!! I would be looking at a fully optioned premium for these dollars.

$4800 is pretty normal PD price as a 'first ask" in most VAg group dealers. They come down pretty quick if you push - about $1500 seems the norm.

I must say, the PD on mine was worth every penny of the $1500 they charged. The vehicle was immaculate & the paint had been corrected beautifully.

Well, so far they have confirmed the spotlight mount. And are using that brochure to show other customers who don't want the xenons either!

Apparently the 6CD stacker isn't an option (despite the Skoda Au website saying it is) so I am now waiting for the dealer to find out if it can be fitted, either in Aust or as a special order.

I'd rather not have to convert all my CD's to something else just because Skoda wants to give me a sat nav instead. I already have a Tom tom I prefer to keep using.

Anyway, they said they'd get back to me next week.

I expect I will be quiet happy ausspace, precisely because I will be satisfied that my questions have actually been answered by the dealer, and not psuedo answered as they will try to do if they can get away with it.

I have stated at the outset to the dealer that I do not want the car plated 'built' until 2012, preferably Jan. I'm not in any hurry. To be honest, if the dealer is going to make a nice little Nth Qld profit from me, then I can at least get a little more value for my dollar by making them work for it.

While it is possible for me to buy from a dealer in say, Brisvegas, and I have considered it, I have some family responsibilities which makes it a bit of a hassle so it's probably not worth the mucking around to organise the other things involved for me to get away.

On the Yeti side...I found that the floor is split level becasue it has a full size spare in the boot space. They don't currently offer a false floor to level it out (although they are apparently looking into it) so that makes it a bit too impractical for me. Which is a shame because I prefer the look of the Yeti and the height. Apart from that, I guess what has cinched it is I felt more comfortable driving the Scout. I was expecting the opposite because I am used to high 4WDs but the Scout just felt more secure.
