I knew there would be a catch with the damn MDI. I haven't looked into it because I don't use much tech gear when I'm in the car. I'm pretty narked I can't just have a 6CD, now I have to get all my CD's put onto a card or something apparently. I'm not even sure what an MDI does exactly so I'm going to have to google. Something that lets you plug ipods and ?? into the car I guess. It's got bluetooth so I can just do that with the phone so I don't need an MDI for that.

I'm not sure that the standard Yeti radio has an SD slot if it does that would be a way cheaper option for getting music into the car. I just use a 16Gb card in mine, never even tried to see if the CD player works.
The MDI is simply a socket that fits into the glove box. You can plug various cables into the socket to allow you to connect different devices. From memory there are three cables, a specific Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad cable, a standard USB cable and an AV socket cable. Locally the cables cost around $100 each but you can get them from the big auction web site for about $20 each.
My original intention was to plug an old iPod into the MDI but the interface on the screen of the radio is no different whether you use an iPod or a SD card so I just use the card. All I use the MDI for these days is charging my iPhone if I need to.
Some people get the USB MDI cable and get a 2.5" external hard drive and load that with music.
The Octavia (and I'm sure I saw one on the Yeti I looked at) also have a standard AV socket in the centre console under the arm rest. You can use that to plug in a standard 3.5mm AV cable (usually free with most devices) to interface to the radio buy plugging the other end of the cable into the headphone socket on the device.
Don't worry about future proofing the MDI is an antiquated device in tech terms. If the dealer won't throw it in for free don't bother with it. All it is is a profit opportunity for Skoda Australia.

All I do is have my phone and listen to CD's.

The Yeti 103TDI has the Bolero radio as standard (contrary to what their brochures say) which has the SD card slot and the 6CD changer as well as touch-screen functionality. It's a top radio and as KIWI pointed out, all Skodas have the AUX input which means that you control the source from the source and not the car (as opposed to the MDI).

Jeeze I wish Skoda would get it's act together with their brochures and update them. If they are that cheap they don't want to re-do them they can at least put out an adendum. It's getting to be a joke. The 6CD changer IS an option (but not standard) according to the dealer this morning.

For the grand price of...wait for it.....

Oh Skoda, you make me laugh. Arguably 'outdated' technology of a CD payer, which is now bog standard for most vehicles. They can't be all that serious about breaking into the Australian market (or anywhere else) with that kind of pricing.

Will see how it goes over the next few weeks now for pricing and what they are prepared to do.

I assume that is why it is an expensive option - outdated technology.

I haven't used original CDs in a car for years - not since one of my wife's company cars got broken into & they stole ~$600 worth of CDs & they weren't covered by her employers insurance (and the silly woman still has a car full of shop-bought CDs because "it's too hard to make MP3s" - FFS). Have since gone from Cd copies to MP3 CDs to MP3s on my music-xpress phone or on the i-device. I would jump to HDD storage or an sd-card in a heartbeat rather than revert to CDs.

CD changers are disappearing from various models/makes. I think Mazda removed them from the updated Mazda 3. People don't need them as they store their music on their phones/mp3 players. Most CD players nowadays play MP3 encoded discs. So you can burn multiple albums onto one disc. Both of these features makes a 6 stacker obsolete.

Are you sure that you are blaming the correct people. It sounds to me like the dealer probably has difficulty spelling Skoda in any way other than P-R-O-F-I-T so maybe that is where a lot of the misinformation is coming from.
It would cost you next to nothing to make a few phone calls to Brisbane or Sydney dealers and even less to send an email to three or four dealerships listing what you want (exactly) and asking for a competitive price.

They have well and truly broken into all of the other markets in which they participate. Coincidentally I had the displeasure of a ride in a 2010 rav 4 yesterday and its stereo looked like something from super cheap's 50 dollar range. The car had no ride comfort and wallowed around corners. The 4 speed auto was anything but smooth and the engine was coarse. Oh and to top it off the doors were tinny and the interior plastics hard and scratchy. Apart from all that it was a lovely car. You pay your money and you take your choice............

Mine has been gestating for about 2.5 yrs, about 6 mths after getting the Skoda I can't help but start researching the next car. When crunch came though I just bought a week ago when I needed to, and bought the best solution for me at the time. Hardly anything will eveer be perfect and what was, might not be when things change down the track. For us it was going from just having a newborn, to now having two young kids and then thinking 4 yrs down the track about what will change as a result of them.
