Yea I would say that was my one disappointment after the drive. Currently borrowing a family members Jetta while they are overseas and getting into that afterwards was noticeably quieter. Far more noticeable than I anticipated.

Doesn't change my mind overall though...

I have continentals on mine, and I reckon they are fantastic....!
Very quiet, very grippy, strong side walls etc...

I put on a cheap set of kuhmos on my Tiguan, and ...man ...they were crappy!

So, yes...spend the extra and replace the tyres straight away with premium quality tyres, and the ride will improve greatly.

The Continents are good and well priced (~$200 each)

I ran Goodyear Assym 2's on my R32 which were fantastic. Got them for a great price from Tirerack.

My Ocy originally came with Continents from the factory and then replaced them with Michelin PS3's. The Michelin's are a much quieter tyre and the grip is better too.

I'm also running the Michelin PS3 - they are meant to be the best combination of grip versus wear
So far I'm very happy with them - noise and grip level
They are not providing much better take off grip however - only slighly better than the Continentals
Initial turn in response may be a little more crisp with the Continentals

    So,

Has anyone actually come across an RS TDI Manual Wagon. I tried to buy one new in 2008 in any spec and gave up after 4 months. Was at the stage where I would have paid asking price.

My brother works for Newcastle Skoda so if you are still interested in a manual Octy RS TDi you should ask him. Unfortunately these days, the average buyer wants DSG over manual, and i dare say the ratio for DSG's over manuals would be even greater on Octavia's alone, let alone a Octavia wagon TDi.

I call past the dealership quite regularily and it's very rare to see a manual car on the lot (with the exception of the Fabia's 77TSI's which until recently were only available in manual). 99% of all cars on the lot are DSG's or automatics.

I had the same issue when i ordered my Golf R. I specifically wanted a manual, and only DSG's were available....so i had to bite the bullet and do a factory order on a manual Golf with a 4.5 month waiting time.

I agree really hard to find a manual wagon. I bit the billet and ordered from the factory. Hated the wait, love the car!

I keep searching everyday on all the sites for the spec our original poster is after..

Nothing as yet.... only that one red liftback...not a manual wagon to be found that fits his requirements....
