none of mine did, including the 84 exa turbo! then again ive only owned nissans and 1 honda, funnily enough it was an accord euro lol
maybe the SR20DET and VQ25DET engines are built better

They are all "old tech" engines (good engines none-the-less). The issue is with modern engines (post 2000 design) that are trying to chase exceptional fuel economy by using low-tension rings & really hard ring & bore materials (among other things).
I agree, once you run the engine in (5000km) you shouldn't have to check/add oil more than once every 6 months but the modern stuff is bad for it & unfortunately VWs appear to be among the worst.
carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic
I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
the thing is i know now and the car has a 'low' warning and it takes 1L to get it back to high.
the oil was dark (as normal) but clean and smooth. just like the engine
im happy for the oil usage, damn its economical. i can put my boot in on the way home from work and still do 10-11L/100km!!
no one commented on my MFD doing colour. are they full colour??
After two+ years on this forum I've finally been spotted! Nice to have another RS in such proximity. How close to Midway? I'm just down Quarry Rd near Lane Cove Rd. Small world .
And even on our pre-FL RS the MFD does flash red if something's amiss so it is colour I guess.
Mine: Silver 2006 Volkswagen Golf Sportline 2.0FSI 6M (with a sunroof)
Parents': Candy White 2008 Skoda Octavia RS 2.0TFSI 6M Liftback
weird, i grew up on quarry road, just down from the shops with the chemist and the vet.
now im on lovell road, near the school
i think i spotted a female driver last time i saw your car. wifey?
hahaha well, say hi to your mum for me kidding!!
im sure you'll see me about. ill beep next time i pass there!
I had a small amount needed when I first got mine, haven't really needed to do it between services though (12mths/15k) since. My wife now drives it shorter distances so it might pick up again. I hadn't needed to check oil for years either, neither our Mazda 323 nor the 6 ever dropped a skeric 6-7yrs ownership of either. However they did have the oil changed every 6mths not 12mths so they may have over time but you just never saw it.
Yes there are colours, usually all bad things annoying giant yellow/orange fuel pump flashes when low on fuel, and bad red ones for things really wrong.
hmm my low fuel just beeps and alerts me. no colour, only the illumination next to the fuel gauge.
i wish the satnav bits were in colour. hmm i wonder if this can be programmed
