RS Airbox
Well my new filter finally arrived today no thanks to Australia post express delivery from Melb - Brisbane in 11 days!!!!

Put the new air filter in and took it out for a spin
Initial impressions are that it feels smoother throughout the rev range and the slight stutter that it has low down has all but gone
Don't know about extra power - would need a proper back to back dyno run to confirm
And it has more noise!!!
Can here the turbo spooling up now and the diverter valve when you back off

Nice work mate! Huge change in height! So more flow :)

re: modifying the air intake by removing the plastic blocking the air flow on the left side...
I can't help wondering why it's blocked in the first place. Engineers and accountants at these companies don't do stuff on a whim. The part looks like it was designed to be clear on both side, yet they've blocked one. What reason could they have for wanting the air to pass via the front of the engine? Extreme cold climates? Is is deliberately slowing the flow of air for some reason? Weather protection?

Unsure, but quite a few after market intakes mimic where the factory unit could take air from?
A couple of tuners I spoke with told me not to bother with an aftermarket intake as the factory system with a few mods and a decent after market filter will easily flow enough air for a stage 2 tune
As you say, they are also a world car hence why we still have a snow screen fitted and in extreme cold climates the engines may need to draw a warmer source of air to function within emissions regulations....

HPRS230 did you confirm with your mates Golf R if the intake was the same or modified from factory to match what we have done?

R is the same as ours. Blank on right, hole on left. And hole into engine bay on left.

I can now confirm after spending some time driving around "normally" this morning
The car has a much sharper throttle response, it comes on boost earlier and quicker and pulls very cleanly low down through the rev range
Windows up - still quiet as a mouse only windows down can you hear the extra intake / turbo noise [emoji2]

I kept this on the down low just in case it didn't work/fit.
VW Part number: 5Q0129849
Which is the trim behind the 'driver's side' air intake 'behind the grill'.
I had Duct tape there and worked fine, but a little look and you can tell something is up. Now it looks stock because it is...
