We went to a Roofrack Superstore branch at the weekend to ask about rails and roofboxes etc. I'd done a bit of research before hand. Interestingly (given the above replies), the guy we spoke to was quite scathing of the Whispbars. He didn't like the fixing mechanism onto the car's rails. He reckoned they can work loose, and also scratch the rails. He had high praise for the newish Rhinorack equivalent, and also the Thule Wingbar Edge, freely admitting the price premium on the Thule.
He didn't like the Rhino rack boxes either - particularly the rack locking mechanism. He'd had a few customers come back saying that they had unlocked too easily! He wasn't trying to sell as on Thule exclusively - he recommended the Yakima towbar mounted bike carrier.
Also, it's annoying that all three brands have a premium on the black finish over the anodised finish - we want to match the black rails on our wagon
I have had roof rack for the last 15 years, i had whisper rack on my RS wagon (now sold) but these were a great addition. Very quite.
Rack are going cheap!! If your interested let me know.
MY11 Octavia RS TSI 2.0T, 6spd, Race Blue Wagon, Window tint, Leather interior, APR Stage II plus ECU upgrade, 3" APR Exhaust, APR Carbonio CAI, Whisper Cross bars, Thule Bike racks (2), Honeycomb grill.
1x medium norco range
1x large focus sam.
Tools and spares hard up against the rear seat. All in the boot with the rear seat up. Meant the luggage had to go on the rear seat. Without the tools etc, I'd be able to fit bags in there as well.
