Roof Bars, Boot Liner, fabric protection...

    Hi All,

I just purchased and picked up an ex-demo 2010 Octavia 1.9L diesel wagon (approx 1000kms), am looking for the following items and wondering if people can help with current info of where to obtain (in Melbourne preferably), recommendations, "usefulness", and a good expectation on pricing:

    - Roof Bars - ROLA were selling some cheap, but unfortunately they are now sold out so I missed the boat there. Can anyone recommend good roof bars (really just for carrying extra luggage) for a good price?

    - Boot Liner - would like a good boot liner for a decent price and not wanting to have to go to a Skoda dealer if I can get a better / good liner at a cheaper price...is e.g. clark rubber maybe a goer and cut to size?

    - fabric protection - I'm certainly not going with any dealer packages, they're a ripoff. Already had the tinting done by a 3rd party for half the price. Is fabric protection by a company worth it though (some places are $100-$150)? Can the same result be achieved with a few cans of scotchguard?

Any and all help / info appreciated!

I've always been a VW & Subaru owner in the past (well besides my Lotus) and I love the Skoda so far...

In regards to the fabric protection, I just bought some 303 Fabric Guard (Waxit - Premium Car Care Products). I have read alot about detailers giving this stuff the thumbs up and being a great product (Used for anything fabric! Seats, carpet, floor mats), I am yet to use it but will this weekend. Definitly better then spending $150! Just have to make sure you don't coat the fabric too much otherwise it will stiffen up.

    Welcome to the Skoda club!

With regards to the fabric protection, I would have a look at thisCar Care Products / Nanolex / Interior / Carpet & Upholstery / Textile and Leather Sealant. The video is worth watching. With all this rain in Brisbane I am looking at getting their glass sealant product.

I use the 303 Aerospace Protectant for the inside plastics and trim and highly recommend their products.

As for the bootliner, I too am in the same boat and working out whether I should order one from overseas or go to Clark Rubber.

Ha - damn I'm stupid!!! I saw the pic of the bottle from the link you had posted and turned around in my chair - I have a bottle of this stuff sitting up on my filing cabinet in my study...

I use it on the soft-top of my Lotus Elise...it works a treat. Really good.

Had a closer look at the label where it also mentions "Auto Interiors / Carpets"...didn't think to myself I could use this for interiors...d'oh!

I still have 3/4's of a bottle left.

I bought generic cargo rubber mat for our Tiguan from Repco and wasted $40 it smells badly even after 2 months when left outside. So, I suggest Skoda rubber mat since it is only $169 and it will fit perfectly.

Yesterday, I tried 303 Plastic and Vinyl Protectant on the dashboard and the doors in my T5 and I'm very impressed with the result. Highly recommend.

Thule aero bar is $270 delivered - not $100, but not ridiculous. $244 for the square bar (Thulecentral)

I would also have to add that the Thule Aero setup is by far the quietest and sleekest looking on the roof bars.
Added to which you have more clip/slide in options on Thule for the future.

Depending on your budget id consider the Thule Aero heavily. Mines 9 years old, been across 3 cars and has been faultless and quiet.

I've got the Thule as well - haven't used it much on the Scout, but was very happy with it on the Outback (not interchangeable - had to trade int eh old ones for longer bars with the new car).

Bought a Repco mat like Transporters. It stunk for a while but the Octy hatch has better cabin/luggage isolation than a wagon. Washed it a couple of times with car suds & the smell got less. Haven't noticed any smell for ages - have had it 2 years. NB: fit isn't perfect - about 98% right.

Used Scotchguard on the mats. nothing on the seats. I have 2 kids 9 + 13 & a standard poodle & they haven't trashed it.
