replacement keys/key recoding for skoda

My house got burgled on friday and unfortunately the crooks took a set of keys containing the second set of keys to my octavia. Thus I need to get a replacement key + recode the lock/remaining key

Wondering if people had any suggestions as to the cheapest way to get this done? - rang my dealer and was quoted...

$176 to recode + $ 232 for a remote + $ 217 for a key blade ie $625.

Any suggestions for alternatives? - current option is ridiculously overpriced

Try Locksmith. I saw the Locksmith van (T5) with the ad saying; we do ALL car keys.

Yes, my wife has strict instructions not to lose her key! (and it'll be bloody well me that eventually does it)

It's more like the car thieves fault than the of the digital age.

have a look in the Golf/Passat areas. A few have bought blank blades off eBay & had them recut & then recoded at the dealer. IIRC it saves ~$200.

No other optinos to offer - I lost a key two years ago and is was around $625 to get it in stock, coded and working.....

Further to my earlier post - ended up choosing to get a recode and go for the single key option.

A few weeks later, the a set keys were dropped off at my letter box (which included my stolen keys).

One thing that I did discover though was that the stolen key was able to open my car doors/boot via the remote - which it appears that the dealership did NOT recode. WTF?

Surely, it would be expected that if a customer walks into the dealership to say that one set of keys were stolen and that a recode was required then it goes without saying that the remote should would be done at the same time - for $170 you'd certainly hope so!

oh, and as an aside - got into the car tonight to drive home and BOTH headlights were gone (no problems yesterday).

Not impressed atm
