I watched a couple of videos on Youtube on Golf's Mk4 and it appears that the interior door panel comes off with the window slide. I will have another look at it tonight and see if I can figure out what is going on.
Hi all, I have had problems with my rear right door not unlocking so I bought another actuator and replaced it.
While pulling the door apart the pully for the window came apart and the cable came off the drum.
I put it back together ok or so i thought.
The problem is that now putting it back together the window mechanism is giving me grief.
My question is how tight is the cable for the window supposed to be?
It all seems really tight, almost too tight.
Thanks in advance.
Jason

Should have about as much flex as a BMX bike chain

hmmm thanks for the reply.
So I think I have wound it around the drum 1 too many times.
Have you ever pulled the rear door apart?
Do you have elsaWin for Skoda Octavia?

I haven't, personally, but I have had the NRMA-sent insurance guy do it for me to replace BOTH my rear winding windows.
Wire was pretty taught.
Also, the rivets(!) are a pain!

Yeah Im having alot of trouble trying to figure out how to get it all back together. If you look at guides on MK5 Golf on youtube they pull the window slide off with the door panel. I have de-rivited the slide off the door and now cant quite figure out how to get it all back together (rivited).
The window guy didn't have any rivets to fit, when putting my doors back together, so he went over to Bunnings and came back with some Rivet Nuts.

I was almost tempted to ask him to replace the rives in the front doors with them also

You know I hadn't thought of rivet nuts
Still doesnt help me getting the slide off the window though.
The door lock has stopped working again now so I will have to wait till it frees itself up again.
On a plus side I was able to check if it was the mechanical or electrical side of the lock that was failing and it appears to be the mechanical side of things.
The window is held in by a sort of... Locking mechanism, but thats overcomplicating it.
Its a hole that a rubber cylinder gets pushed through, which holds the two units together. I didn't take photos, else I'd post!
