Rattles?

Hi, I am looking at the octavia 90tsi because for the money there doesn't seem to be many other cars with the kind of quality interior on offer.

However, I hear a lot about rattles from modern VW cars and am wondering if that is something that should be expected from Skoda also?

Personally, I found the build quality of the skoda to be great. There is one rattle, thought, that seems to be a common one. That is located on the passenger front side at the dash. Others have spray silicon into the area with success - no other rattles other than that.

I've had my Octavia (RS wagon) for just on 12 months now, rattle-free, not a squeak or creak to be heard. I agree that for the money the 90TSI is a sensational proposition when stacked against, say, a Corolla or Mazda3, the interior quality is amazing for that price point and the boot is huge. Are you looking at manual or DSG? If you're ok with a manual save yourself a couple grand and take the sweet-shifting manual.

Not sure if you've test driven the 90TSI yet, it's performance is on the 'sedate' side of things, but if you're not into 'spiritied driving' and want an economical car to get you places in more comfort and style than a Japanese or Korean car the 90TSI will do you fine.

The small Japanese and Korean cars usually display a lot of engine noise at 110km/h whereas the golf (and I am hoping the Skoda with this engine) seemed more relaxed.

Is the NVH close to Golf levels?

I have a Octavia RS and my girlfriend has a Octavia 90TSI. Mine has only had the one rattle on the passenger side dash - which was easily fixed by popping off the end cap of the dash, tightening the one torx screw that was creaking and finishing off with some silicone spray just in case. The 90TSI has no rattles whatsoever, same can be said for my RS now!

The Octavia is easily on par with the Golf in terms of road noise, with the Octavia having more substantial door sealing in my opinion, which means less wind noise at high speed.

I have a rattle from the tail gate ,turns out one of the rubber bump stops is missing, bodgied up with a ball of elect. tape at the moment. Other than that ,no rattles.

As for NVH, the Octavia RS I own rolls on low-profile tyres with 18" wheels but even then I don't find any excessive NVH issues such as tyre roar, wind isolation at speed is fine to... the 90TSI should roll fairly quietly on smaller wheels with higher profile tyres, I don't expect you'd have any NVH issues, certainly none more so than on any competitor inc Golf (although I know VW use more sound-proofing in ther cars, you just have to lift the trim to see that, but let's see you driveaway in a Golf for under $26k!!)

Yea I did read that review, most reviews seem to really rate this car. I would like the Golf but just getting it on the road with no options gets up to 28k and it is lacking a fair few things compared to the Octavia (although I believe the comfort pack is in the 90tsi with no extra charge now).

I test drove the Golf in both hatch and wagon form, and take it from me, the Octavia is it's equal even if it doesn't have the badge cachet of its VW cousin... but as you've found out you pay a premium for that VW badge, whereas with Skoda you get the same technology, engines, transmissions, floorpans, interior components etc without any discernable reduction in build quality or performance... and the Octavia's considerably bigger boot comes in handy too! Not to mention having something 'different' on the road, while you will no doubt pass about 400 Golfs on the road every month!!

The only noise I've got in my vRS wagon after 40,000km is the left rear door creaking as you drive across steep driveways and the like. Isn't there some Silcone stuff you can rub onto the door rubbers to get rid of this noise?
