as i suspected - it sounds turbo related. i wasn't convinced with the exhaust theory - cause it didn't gel with condition/scenario.

found some interesting reads here and here

possible problem - flex connection on the down pipe.
solution - a tiguan air pipe to wipe out the noise.

    VW's official TSB is below.

VW have issued guidance on this noise as follows...

Technical product information Transaction No.: 2021062/1
Rattling noises from engine/exhaust system Release date: 10-Jul-2009

    Customer statement / workshop findings
Rattling or jarring noise from the engine compartment / exhaust system when accelerating between 2400 and 3000 rpm .

    Technical background
Waste gate adjustment rod of the turbo charger rattles when accelerating.

    Production change
    ---

    Measure
Do not repair, the noises are construction-related and normal. There is no parts damage.

    Warranty accounting instructions
This is no fault in the sense of warranty.

    Hmmmmmm RIGHT...

I am no VW Engineer, but I did study engineering for three years before I went on to greater things using a calculator and being on hold with the Tax Office all day...
Anyway, the only thing I am aware of that was designed to rattle was a pair of maracas. At the end of the day a rattle is the sound of two objects frequently colliding at high speed, usually resulting in structural deterioration of both sources of noise over time.
In 3 years and 1 day we will probably be told that the 'waste gate adjustment rod' needs replacing for a small fortune; payed to the VW Group Director's retirement fund.

Sounds like you all need to get onto Skoda asap and report the noise.

no point, according to the TSB issued by VW - there is no fix. "do not repair.....noise are normal".

better off getting used to the racket when accelerating.

Guys, Don't forget these are public forums, Skoda Australia read them regularly and if you have a problem with the vehicle the local Branch may well step up to satisfy its local clients over the international TSB statements.

Id make a racket if my <50k Turbo car made shocking noises a few weeks after buying it when it was silent. Its not a difficult thing to fix from an engineering perspective. A simple washer or brass bush/sleave would be suffice.

Despite what they say about normal, it's not gonna entice someone to buy another Skoda with a built in rattle. Same goes for all those VW and Audi owners with the same issue. The last thing you want is something annoying everyone with these turbos on a daily basis.

Hmmm - its not so bad as to consider a problem (unless its an issue that causes breakage).
