Power window operation from key buttons

Like I said, I've deactivated the rain auto close. Sometimes my wipers go nuts on nice sunny days when a single drop comes from somewhere. If the windows all closed while my dog had his melon head hanging out the back it wouldn't be pretty.

The auto close does not work while the car is being driven, I don't think it even works with the key in the ignition and I hope that you are not saying that you leave your dog unattended in the car on hot days.

i'm pretty sure the "rain closing" function, set via maxidot (comfort menu), is different to "auto wipers" function, set via the wiper stalk.

for the rain-closing to function, if activated, the car needs to be parked & locked. it won't work while ur driving, nor will it activate the wipers. the only relation is that they share the same sensor to detect rain & how much.
if ur dog's melons, or other bits, r sticking out the window, as brad mentioned, it will detect an obstruction and stop. presuming ur dog hasn't drooled over the car, the rain will then proceed to drench the inside of ur car!

for the auto wipers to work cause the guy infront of u broke a sweat in his car, u need to set the wiper stalk to position 1. having the "rain closing" turned on won't trigger this.

rosie - do u know u can "adjust" the sensitivity of the auto-wipers by adjusting the dial thingy ontop of the wiper stalk. towards the left = least sensitive; towards the right = very sensitive. i've got mine set 1 left from the middle.
seems 2 b well behaved there.

So many things I'm learning about the old banger on this forum. I knew about the windows closing in the rain, but not opening / closing using remote. That's handy.
I also have auto wipers coming on in bright sunshine sometimes (I lean towards the lower sensitivity settng). They need to work on them a bit.

I hate it when the auto wipers come on when the winscreen is a bit dirty / greasy. Makes a bloody mess.

And I hate it when I have to drive my wife's Mazda 3, bloody manual wipers and manual headlights..... takes a bit if getting used to....

Speaking of Mazda 3 how poor are the wiper speed settings. There either too slow or flat out. How about some intermittent speeds. Sorry just had to rant. It annoys me everytime I drive one in the rain.

All the "auto" stuff I love. Very few problems of false triggers etc.
... auto lights, auto wipers, auto rear-view tint, auto audio mute, auto dash lights when driving into the sun, flat tyre warning,
Now, if it'd just do the auto-body-wash and auto-loan-repayments I'd be in 7th heaven

I don't leave my dog in a car unattended on cool days. I've been know to give a mouthful to people that do. They just don't realise that even on a cool day that all that metal and glass heats up the inside to lethal levels for a dog in a very short time. "The temperature in a parked car can quickly rise to over 60º C. Under these conditions a dog locked inside can suffer from heat stress in as little as six minutes, resulting in an agonising death. Even cars parked in the shade on an overcast day can become dangerously hot". - quote from RSPCA.


Dogs don't sweat, and dehydrate a lot faster than humans. They cool themselves by getting airflow over that dripping tongue, which is why when they're hot they pant when standing still, or lay down with their mouth open facing a breeze. If the air they're trying to draw over the tongue is already even 5C higher than ambient, and especially with no water at hand, then they're in trouble. Anyone who has burnt their hand on a steering wheel knows that the inside of the car is well over 5C above ambient.

That's right brad, but the window has to first jam the dogs head in the window before it stops. Now I know that the windows only activate while the car is locked and staionary it's not an issue, but the mental picture of a freaked out 45kg Ridgeback with his head jammed in a window was enough for me not to leave anything to chance.

Yes. Another thing I've found in the manual. Handy little book that one! I've now got mine set where yours are and am happy not to now have those unexpected flurries of wiper activity.
